Reach for this when you want to drop an opinion AND check that your listener is with you — 'sounds X, right?' 听起来 hedges the claim as an impression; 对吧 is the tag question that invites a soft nod. Together they form one of the most-used podcast and lecture moves in Chinese: state how something seems, ask the listener to agree, then deliver the twist or nuance you actually wanted to make.
Structure
tīng qǐlái ..., duì ba?
How to Think About It
This is a setup, not a real question. The speaker has already decided what they think — they're using 对吧 to pull the listener into agreement before turning the corner. Almost every time this phrase appears, a 'but actually...' follows. Native listeners hear 听起来 X, 对吧? and brace for a contrast. Use it to build buy-in before you complicate the picture.
Examples
Tīng qǐlái hěn jiǎndān, duì ba?
Sounds simple, right?
Tīng qǐlái yǒudiǎn qíguài, duì ba?
Sounds a little strange, right?
Tīng qǐlái hěn guì, duì ba? Qíshí bú guì.
Sounds expensive, right? Actually it's not.
Common Mistake
Learners often use 对吗 (full question, formal) instead of 对吧 (tag, casual). 对吗 sincerely asks for confirmation; 对吧 assumes it. Using 对吗 here makes you sound like you genuinely don't know the answer, which kills the rhetorical setup.

Don't Confuse With
Same frame, but for visual impressions instead of auditory/conceptual ones. Use 看起来 when the basis is sight; use 听起来 when the basis is hearing or reading.
X,是不是?
More neutral tag question — 'is it or isn't it?' 对吧 expects agreement; 是不是 leaves more room for disagreement.
X,你说呢?
'X, what do you say?' Genuinely invites the listener's view. 对吧 wants a nod; 你说呢 wants an answer.
