How to Think About It
结果 is a noun: 'result / outcome.' Anything before 的 acts as its modifier. So 努力的结果 = 'the result of effort,' 失败的结果 = 'the result of failure.' The whole phrase is a NOUN — it can sit as subject, object, or after 是: 这是努力的结果 ('this is the result of effort'). If you want a verbal 'as a result,' you want 结果 alone at the start of a sentence, not 的结果.

Common Mistake
Learners use 的结果 to mean 'as a result' at the start of a sentence, mirroring English. But sentence-initial 'as a result' is just 结果 — no 的. With 的, it's a noun phrase that needs to fit into a larger sentence.

Don't Confuse With

Used sentence-initially ('as a result, ...') or as a standalone noun ('the result'). Drop 的 when you want the adverbial 'as a result' meaning.
...导致的
'Caused by...' — frames the relationship as causation rather than result. Use 导致的 when emphasizing the cause; 的结果 when emphasizing the outcome.
...的后果
后果 = 'consequences,' usually negative. Use 后果 for bad outcomes; 结果 is neutral.
