X 戳中了 Y / 打中了 Y
Reach for this when something hit a precise emotional or psychological target — a song that 戳中 your tear ducts, an ad that 打中 your wallet, a comment that 戳中 your insecurity. The verbs 戳 (poke) and 打 (hit) are turned into precision-strike metaphors with the resultative 中 ('hit the target'). Heavy in marketing copy, social media captions, and product reviews. Casual to semi-casual register — fluent online Chinese rather than formal writing.
Structure
X + 戳中了 / 打中了 + Y (的痛点 / 笑点 / 泪点 / 心 / 需求)
chuō zhòng le / dǎ zhòng le
How to Think About It
中 (zhòng, fourth tone) means 'hit the target' — same character as in 中奖 (win the lottery). So 戳中 isn't just 'poke' — it's 'poke AND land.' Picture an arrow finding the bullseye. The thing being hit is usually an abstract spot: 痛点 (pain point), 笑点 (the funny bone), 泪点 (the tear trigger), 心 (the heart). The whole construction says 'X didn't just touch Y — it found exactly the right spot in Y.'

Common Mistake
Learners read 中 as zhōng (first tone, 'middle') instead of zhòng (fourth tone, 'hit the target'). They also drop 了, which the punctual hit-the-target meaning requires.

Don't Confuse With
打动了 Y
'Moved Y emotionally' — softer, broader, romantic-leaning. 打动 is about being moved; 戳中/打中 is about precision targeting of a specific weak spot.
击中了 Y
More literal/forceful 'struck Y.' Used for physical hits or formal/dramatic emotional metaphors. 戳中 feels playful and internet-native; 击中 feels weightier.
正中下怀
Idiom: 'exactly what I wanted / hit the bullseye of my heart.' More literary. 戳中 describes the act of hitting; 正中下怀 describes the satisfying result of being hit.
