Today let's talk about big news from Britain: it's changing Prime Ministers again.
新的这位首相，叫伯纳姆，今年五十多岁。
The new Prime Minister is named Burnham, and he's in his fifties.
说起伯纳姆，他有一个很响亮的外号，叫"北方之王"。
Speaking of Burnham, he has a famous nickname: "King of the North."
这个外号，是怎么来的呢？
Where did this nickname come from?
伯纳姆，是英国北方的人。
Burnham is from the north of England.
在英国，有钱、有权的人，大多在南边的伦敦。
In Britain, the wealthy and powerful are mostly in London, in the south.
北方的很多城市，反而没那么受重视。
Many northern cities, by contrast, get far less attention.
而伯纳姆，一直为北方的老百姓说话。
But Burnham has always spoken up for ordinary people in the north.
几年前，英国闹疫情的时候，中央政府想封他管的城市。
A few years ago, during the pandemic, the central government wanted to lock down the city he ran.
可是，政府给的钱，又不够。
But the money the government offered wasn't enough.
伯纳姆就站了出来，公开和中央政府吵。
So Burnham stepped up and publicly argued with the central government.
就因为这件事，大家记住了他，叫他"北方之王"。
Because of that, people remembered him and started calling him "King of the North."
其实，伯纳姆很早就想当首相了。
Actually, Burnham had wanted to be Prime Minister for a long time.
可是，他试过两次，都失败了。
But he'd tried twice, and both times he failed.
后来，他就去当了曼彻斯特的市长。
After that, he went and became the Mayor of Manchester.
这一当，就是好几年。
And he stayed in that job for several years.
在市长的位子上，他做得很不错，名气也越来越大。
As mayor he did quite well, and his reputation kept growing.
最近，英国的首相斯塔默，突然说不干了。
Recently, Britain's Prime Minister, Starmer, suddenly said he was quitting.
这样一来，工党就要选一个新的领导。
With that, the Labour Party had to choose a new leader.
在英国，工党是一个大党，工党的领导，一般就是首相。
In Britain, Labour is a major party, and its leader usually becomes Prime Minister.

This time, nearly all of Labour's MPs backed Burnham.
