English transcript reference

On September 17, the Dodgers were set to play the Reds, with the West division title at stake.

Their star Shohei Ohtani was on the injured list and could not play.

Andy Pages, another important hitter, was also on the injured list.

Without them, the Dodgers needed other players to step up.

That day, Kyle Tucker delivered four hits.

He also drove in three runs, helping his teammates score.

A hit means the batter puts the ball in play and reaches a base safely.

Four hits meant Tucker got on base again and again that day.

He was one triple short of hitting for the cycle.

To hit for the cycle in one game, a player needs a single, double, triple, and home run.

The triple never came, so Tucker did not complete the cycle.

What the Dodgers needed most was a win, not a pretty individual record.

The Dodgers scored eight runs; the Reds scored two.

That eight-to-two score gave the Dodgers the West division title.

For the Dodgers, it was their fifth straight year finishing first in the West.

They have won this division in thirteen of the last fourteen years.

The players celebrated in the locker room, spraying drinks.

The celebration looked big because finishing first five years in a row is not easy.

The players were happy, but they were not celebrating a World Series title yet.

A division title means they finished first among teams in their area.

The World Series winner will only be known after the playoffs.

Looking back, the Dodgers have won the World Series two years in a row.

This year they hope to win a third and become a rare three-peat team.

So this West title is one step toward their ultimate goal.

The Dodgers pitchers also faced a challenge in this game.

They used several pitchers in sequence, each working part of the game.

This is a bullpen game: one pitcher leaves and another comes in.

Without Ohtani, other hitters had to score; without a regular starting pitcher, the bullpen had to protect the lead.

Tucker's four hits gave them exactly the support they needed.

By the end of the game, the Dodgers had secured a playoff spot.

The West title also told them this division was theirs again this year.

At the time, nine regular-season games remained, and they still had to play on.

When injured players return will also affect their playoff choices.

For now, the clearest fact is that they beat the Reds eight to two and won a fifth straight West title.

With the West title, the Dodgers moved one step closer to the World Series.

If you were a teammate watching Tucker get four hits on such an important day, would you celebrate first or think about the next game?
