English transcript reference

Some people can climb into countless hearts with a single song.

Glen Hansard was one of them.

This Irish musician was, in his youth, just an ordinary busker on the streets of Dublin, guitar in hand, singing to the passers-by.

The band he formed, The Frames, simmered quietly for years, yet always had a core of devoted fans.

What truly changed everything was that small 2007 film, Once.

The film tells how a street performer and an immigrant girl slowly grow close through music, one song at a time.

Its song "Falling Slowly," simple in melody yet so heavy with feeling it moved people to tears, ultimately won him the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

To go from busking on the street to standing on the Oscar stage is, in itself, a moving story.

And those who knew him say that more than his talent, it was his sincerity and generosity that moved people.

But in the early morning of July 29th, on the western edge of Dublin, a motorcycle crash took this fifty-six-year-old man away.

As the news spread, the whole music world sank into grief; Bruce Springsteen said his "heart was broken," that he had lost a dear friend.

Death can take a person, but it cannot take the melody they leave behind.

As long as someone, deep in the night, still softly hums that line from "Falling Slowly," Glen Hansard has never truly left.
