Let me be clear about one thing: WWE isn't real fighting — it's a performance.
But precisely because it's a performance, it understands better how to tell a good story.
This summer, WWE's biggest show, SummerSlam, told an almost perfect one: the fall of the old king, and the crowning of the new.
The “old king” is Brock Lesnar, nicknamed “the Beast.”
He's fought professional MMA; 1.91 meters tall, about 130 kilos, the most dominant and most feared presence in WWE for twenty years.
The “new king” is Oba Femi, 28 this year, from Nigeria, nicknamed “the Ruler.”
He grew up in Lagos, first trained in the shot put in track and field, and only later switched to wrestling.
After joining WWE, he shot up as if on a rocket, and was quickly built up as the company's number-one future star.
This time the script was brutally clever: the two were locked in “Hell in a Cell,” a cage walled with steel mesh on all four sides — no way out until there's a winner.
Even better: the match's location was set in Brock's hometown.
