On the last day of July, film fans worldwide got the big event they were waiting for: Spider-Man is back.

Tom Holland's new film Brand New Day opened July 31st in 4,300 North American theaters at once.

It's his fourth Spider-Man movie, and from greenlight to release, fans waited a good few years.

And the market's response can only be described in one word: crazy.

Before it opened, the industry predicted its first weekend could reach two hundred to two hundred eighty million dollars.

What does that mean?

If the forecast holds, it would not only be the year's biggest opening, but also the second-biggest in the whole Spider-Man series, behind only No Way Home.

What's rarer, it isn't one of those "sells tickets but not acclaim" blockbusters.

On the professional review sites, its positive rating is above ninety percent — the acclaim is as hot as the box office.

So the question is: after all these years, why does the world still love Spider-Man so much?

The answer may lie precisely in his "imperfection."

Unlike heroes born powerful, Spider-Man is, at his core, just an ordinary young man who gets nervous, makes mistakes, and frets over rent and love.

He doesn't have Iron Man's wealth or Superman's god-like power.

What he has is the courage to step forward, again and again, even while afraid.

It is this "I could be a hero too" ordinariness that lets generation after generation of audiences see themselves in him.

So this time, when that familiar figure swung back onto the big screen, what countless people felt wasn't just excitement for a movie.

They were saying "hello," one more time, to their own younger selves.
