AI真的在思考吗?
Is AI Really Thinking? Luc Julia and the Nature Paper on the Intelligence Illusion
HSK 3 Chinese listening practice. French scientist Luc Julia and a Nature paper argue today's AI doesn't think — it processes patterns. Why it fools us.
This is an HSK 3-4 Chinese listening episode that runs about 5 minutes. The full Mandarin script is shown with tap-for-pinyin and a line-by-line English translation, so you can listen and read at once — comprehensible input in the sense of Stephen Krashen's i+1 theory. It teaches 18 key vocabulary words such as 聪明、话题、计算器 and walks through 7 grammar patterns, each explained in English with examples. The same news story is retold at 4 difficulty levels — use the level selector above to find the version that is challenging but still understandable for you.
我们来聊聊AI到底聪不聪明。
Let's talk about whether AI is really smart or not.
这个话题最近特别火。
This topic has been super hot recently.
很多人觉得AI超级厉害。
Many people think AI is incredibly powerful.
觉得AI什么都能做。
They think AI can do anything.
但真的是这样吗?
But is that really true?
最近有一本新书出来了。
A new book just came out recently.
书的名字叫《AI幻觉》。
The book is called "The AI Illusion."
作者是一个法国科学家。
The author is a French scientist.
他叫Luc Julia。
His name is Luc Julia.
这本书在Nature上被报道了。
This book was covered in Nature.
就是三月二十三号的事。
It was on March 23rd.
他说了一个很有意思的观点。
He made a very interesting point.
他觉得AI其实没那么聪明。
He thinks AI isn't actually that smart.
他说AI就是高级计算器。
He says AI is just an advanced calculator.
对,你没听错。
Yes, you heard that right.
就是计算器。
Just a calculator.
虽然是很厉害的计算器。
Although it's a very powerful calculator.
但本质上还是计算器。
But essentially it's still a calculator.
这个说法让很多人吃惊。
This claim surprised many people.
为什么他会这么说呢?
Why would he say that?
我们先想一个问题。
Let's think about a question first.
什么是智能?
What is intelligence?
什么是聪明?
What is being smart?
人的聪明是什么样的?
What does human intelligence look like?
我们能思考问题。
We can think about problems.
我们能感受情绪。
We can feel emotions.
我们能理解别人的感受。
We can understand other people's feelings.
我们能创造新的东西。
We can create new things.
这些都是人的智能。
These are all aspects of human intelligence.
那AI呢?
What about AI?
AI能做这些吗?
Can AI do these things?
其实AI不能。
Actually, AI can't.
AI看起来很聪明。
AI looks very smart.
但它只是在处理数据。
But it's only processing data.
它在做计算。
It's doing calculations.
它不理解意思。
It doesn't understand meaning.
它不知道自己在做什么。
It doesn't know what it's doing.
这就是问题所在。
That's where the problem lies.
我们来看看历史。
Let's look at the history.
人工智能这个词。
The term "artificial intelligence."
是一九五六年出现的。
It appeared in 1956.
到现在已经七十年了。
It's been seventy years now.
七十年来。
Over seventy years.
很多人误解了这个词。
Many people have misunderstood this term.
人工智能里面有智能两个字。
The words "artificial intelligence" contain the word "intelligence."
所以大家觉得它有智能。
So everyone assumes it has intelligence.
但这个名字起得不太好。
But this name wasn't chosen very well.
它让人产生了错误的想法。
It gave people the wrong idea.
人们以为AI能像人一样思考。
People thought AI could think like humans.
其实它完全不能。
Actually, it absolutely cannot.
举个例子吧。
Let me give you an example.
AI可以写文章。
AI can write articles.
写得还不错。
And it writes pretty well.
但它不知道文章的意思。
But it doesn't know the meaning of the article.
它只是把字排在一起。
It just arranges characters together.
按照概率来排。
It arranges them based on probability.
哪个字应该在哪个字后面。
Which character should follow which.
它算出来的。
It calculates the result.
不是想出来的。
It doesn't think it up.
再举一个例子。
Here's another example.
AI可以画画。
AI can paint pictures.
画得很漂亮。
It paints very beautifully.
但它不懂美是什么。
But it doesn't understand what beauty is.
它不知道为什么这样画好看。
It doesn't know why a painting looks good.
它只是学了很多图片。
It just learned from a lot of images.
然后模仿出来。
And then imitated them.
所以Julia说得对。
So Julia is right.
AI是工具。
AI is a tool.
是很厉害的工具。
A very powerful tool.
但还是工具。
But still a tool.
就像锤子一样。
Just like a hammer.
锤子能钉钉子。
A hammer can pound nails.
但你不会说锤子聪明吧。
But you wouldn't say a hammer is smart.
AI也是一样的道理。
The same logic applies to AI.
那为什么大家会觉得AI聪明呢?
Then why do people think AI is smart?
这跟人的心理有关。
It's related to human psychology.
我们人有一个习惯。
We humans have a habit.
就是把东西当成人来看。
We tend to see things as if they were people.
比如我们会给车起名字。
For example, we give our cars names.
会跟宠物说话。
We talk to our pets.
觉得它们能听懂。
We think they can understand us.
对AI也是这样。
It's the same with AI.
我们看到AI说话。
When we see AI talk.
就觉得它在思考。
We feel like it's thinking.
其实它没有。
But it's actually not.
这就是所谓的幻觉。
This is what's called an illusion.
我们自己创造的幻觉。
An illusion we create ourselves.
现在AI的宣传特别多。
There's a lot of AI hype right now.
每天都有新闻说AI多厉害。
Every day there's news about how powerful AI is.
什么AI超过人类了。
Claims that AI has surpassed humans.
什么AI要统治世界了。
Claims that AI will rule the world.
这些说法太夸张了。
These claims are too exaggerated.
Julia觉得这些都是炒作。
Julia thinks this is all just hype.
他说我们应该冷静一点。
He says we should calm down a bit.
好好想想AI到底是什么。
And really think about what AI actually is.
AI确实很有用。
AI is certainly very useful.
它能帮我们做很多事。
It can help us do a lot of things.
比如翻译语言。
Like translating languages.
比如分析数据。
Like analyzing data.
比如推荐音乐。
Like recommending music.
这些都很好。
These are all great.
但这不是真正的智能。
But this isn't real intelligence.
这是特定任务的工具。
These are tools for specific tasks.
每个AI只能做一件事。
Each AI can only do one thing.
做翻译的AI不会下棋。
An AI that translates can't play chess.
下棋的AI不会开车。
An AI that plays chess can't drive.
人不一样。
Humans are different.
人可以做很多不同的事。
Humans can do many different things.
这就是区别。
That's the difference.
所以下次看到AI的新闻。
So next time you see AI news.
不要太激动。
Don't get too excited.
想一想它到底在做什么。
Think about what it's actually doing.
它是在思考吗?
Is it thinking?
还是在计算?
Or is it calculating?
答案很清楚。
The answer is clear.
它在计算。
It's calculating.
AI是好工具。
AI is a good tool.
我们应该好好用它。
We should make good use of it.
但不要把它当成人。
But don't treat it like a person.
不要觉得它真的聪明。
Don't think it's truly smart.
记住Julia说的话。
Remember what Julia said.
AI就是高级计算器。
AI is just an advanced calculator.
这个认识很重要。
This understanding is very important.
因为只有这样。
Because only in this way.
我们才能正确地使用AI。
Can we use AI correctly.
不会对它期望太高。
We won't have expectations that are too high.
也不会对它太害怕。
And we won't be too afraid of it.
这才是对待AI的正确态度。
This is the right attitude toward AI.
Used throughout to describe human intelligence, contrasted with AI's computational ability.
A common word for a subject of discussion. 这个话题最近特别火 = This topic has been really hot lately.
它只是在处理数据 = It's just processing data. Common in tech contexts.
