Lu Xixiao and Zhou Wan rushed up one after the other, one laying bare their pain, one their sorrow, pulling her back from the brink line by line.

At the last instant, Lu Xixiao yanked her up, but his own foot met empty air, and his whole body was about to plunge.

Zhou Wan lunged forward and gripped his arm for dear life, dragged by his weight, and the two of them hung together in mid-air.

Luckily the firefighters below had already stretched out a safety net, and after the fright both landed safely.

夏天说散就散，高考铃声一落，陆西骁便真的要动身了。
The summer scattered as fast as it gathered; the moment the exam bell fell silent, Lu Xixiao truly was setting off.
临行前的那一夜，两个人并肩坐在秋千上，一起仰头看漫天的星。
On the night before he left, the two of them sat shoulder to shoulder on a swing, looking up at a sky full of stars.
陆西骁低声说：从前我一个人守着这块地方，冷冷清清，连个说话的人都没有。
Lu Xixiao said in a low voice: before, I guarded this patch of ground alone, cold and quiet, without even someone to talk to.
话到这里，他停了停，又极轻地补上一句：如今有你在，这儿才总算有了几分家的样子。
He stopped there, paused, then added, ever so softly: now that you're here, this place finally has a few shades of a home.
周挽终于没忍住，问出了那句话：你究竟为什么，非要一个人出国不可？
At last Zhou Wan couldn't hold it in, and asked the question: why exactly must you go abroad, all alone?
陆西骁没有正面作答，只是定定地凝视着她，看了很久，久到星光都淡了几分。
Lu Xixiao didn't answer head-on; he only gazed at her steadily, for so long the starlight itself seemed to dim.
然后，他忽然极轻地开口：你想不想……谈恋爱？
Then, all at once, he said, very softly: do you want to fall in love?
夏天正在落幕，他也即将远行，可偏偏在这个当口，他把憋了整整一夏的心里话，一字一句吐了出来。
The summer was drawing to a close, and he was about to travel far, yet at exactly this juncture he let out, word by word, the words he'd held in all summer.
