Today, we're opening a new drama — "Overdo" (Zhe Yi Miao Guo Huo).

The story settles into early Republican-era Shanghai, a city of gilded excess and lurking danger.

First, the male lead, Murong Qingyi.

He was born into a rich and powerful warlord household in Shanghai, and should have grown up a young master with a silver spoon, cradled in everyone's hands.

But fate, the moment he was born, played on him a joke cruel to the extreme — in swaddling clothes, he was swapped by mistake, and was not this family's true flesh and blood at all.

After his adoptive father learned the truth, he never gave the boy another kind look, beating and cursing him, dumping a chest full of resentment and disappointment onto this innocent child.

At eleven, Murong Qingyi could no longer swallow it, and under cover of night, ran away alone from that lavish, cold mansion.

Hiding it from her family, she quietly slipped this dying boy into the medicine shop, fed him spoonful by spoonful, and dressed his wounds with her own hands.

In the lightless years of Murong Qingyi's life, Ren Susu was almost the one beam of light he had — her face he carved into his very bones, and remembered a whole lifetime.

But no one imagined that this one unguarded kindness would be the opening of a catastrophe.

Simply for taking Murong Qingyi in, the Ren family unwittingly stood in the way of the Murong family's foes, and became a target for their vengeance.

That gang came to the door, and in a single night, the whole Ren family was cut down in blood.

Of that whole bustling household, in the end only Ren Susu was lucky enough to keep her life.

Barely escaping death, she was shuttled off to a place of every earthly suffering, and from then on tasted the world's cold and warmth.

And it was from that very day that a seed named hatred took root, silently, deep in her heart.

In a flash of many years, the two children who had once curled together for warmth in that medicine shop had both grown up.

Ren Susu hid her name, went by Fang Mulan, and, with a mind of careful schemes, stepped back into the very Shanghai that had swallowed her whole family.

She came back for two words alone: take revenge.

Yet for all her calculations, she never reckoned on this: through all the twists and turns, the one she ran into face-to-face was the very boy she had once risked her life to save.

Only, the two people standing before each other now were no longer that boy and girl who had once huddled for warmth under the dim lamp of that medicine shop.

A single kind thought saved one life, and yet, with the same hand, toppled a whole family.

And this love and hatred spanning ten years has, this moment, only just lifted one corner of its curtain.
