A new vaccine may make cancer less likely to return.
On August 19, a large trial reported this encouraging result.
Many patients took part in the trial.
Cancer was less likely to return in patients who received the new vaccine.
Doctors were pleased to hear the result.
All of these patients had cancer.
The patients had surgery.
After surgery, doctors could no longer see the cancer.
The patients could go home.
But the cancer can return.
Patients do not want the cancer to return.
Doctors do not want it to return either.
The trial had two groups of patients.
One group received medicine.
The other group received medicine and the new vaccine.
Doctors later checked the patients again.
Cancer was less likely to return in those who received the vaccine.
That was a good result.
This vaccine is unusual.
Each patient receives a different vaccine.
Doctors first examine one patient’s cancer.
After that, a vaccine is made for that patient.
The next patient receives another vaccine.
The trial also used an existing medicine.
Many doctors worked together on the trial.
Patients cannot receive this vaccine yet.
More results must be released and examined by doctors.
