Today we'll talk about two people.
One is a man, one is a woman.
These two did something.
A big thing.
Something most people wouldn't dare to do.
As they did it, many people were watching.
Some watched and said: amazing!
Others said: too dangerous, I can't even look!
And others said: are they crazy?
This thing was truly dangerous, and truly impressive.
So dangerous that some couldn't bear to watch.
But they really did it.
So, what exactly did they do?
Let's take it slowly.
In a city, there is a very, very tall building.
Taller than any building you've ever seen.
These two wanted to climb to the very top of it.
They didn't take the elevator.
They used their hands and feet, climbing up bit by bit.
The scariest part: they had no rope at all.
Think about how dangerous that is.
One slip, and they'd fall.
But they really climbed up.
They reached the very, very top.
Below them was the whole city.
All the cars and people looked tiny.
At the top, they did something special.
Up that high, the man asked the woman: will you marry me?
Right there on the building, they said they would marry.
So, is this real?
It's real.
This building, in America, is called the Empire State Building.
It's one of the most famous buildings in the world.
The two climbers came from Russia.
It wasn't their first climb.
Before, they had climbed many other tall buildings.
One of them was in China.
So, what happened after the climb?
When they came down, the police were already waiting.
Because climbing buildings like this is not allowed.
It's too dangerous.
The police arrested them both.
At this point, I'd like to talk with you.
They are brave — that's true.
Proposing up that high is truly romantic, too.
But doing this is also truly dangerous.
One slip, and their lives would be gone.
So we can watch, and find it impressive.
But we ourselves must never imitate it.
Finally, I want to ask you.
To do something cool, would you trade your own life for it?
他们用自己的手和脚,一点一点往上爬 = they climbed up bit by bit with their hands and feet.
一座很高很高的大楼 = a very, very tall building.
你想一想,这有多危险 = think how dangerous this is. The recurring warning.

他们身上,一根绳子也没有 = they had no rope at all — the scariest part.
他们不坐电梯 = they didn't take the elevator.
只要一不小心,就会掉下来 = one slip and they'd fall.
你愿意嫁给我吗 = will you marry me? What the man asks at the top.
他们说,要结婚了 = they said they were getting married.
这座大楼,在美国,叫帝国大厦 = this building, in America, is the Empire State Building.
