Today we're talking about a thrilling World Cup match: Turkey beat the United States three to two.

Five goals in all, the score constantly changing, and the goal that decided it went in only at the very last moment.

First, some background.

The US is one of the hosts of this World Cup, playing on home soil.

And before this game, the US had already played well and secured first in the group, certain to reach the next round.

So for the US, this game actually had little pressure.

But for Turkey it was different — if they lost or drew this game, they'd go home.

More importantly, Turkey hadn't won a World Cup match in many years, and they desperately wanted a win.

When the match began, the US scored first.

In just the third minute, Trusty scored for the US, one to zero.

Conceding early, Turkey didn't panic.

Quickly, their Güler leveled it, one to one.

Not long after, Yılmaz scored another, two to one, Turkey taking the lead.

The first half was already lively.

Speaking of Güler, he's a much-tipped young player for Turkey.

He's young, but technically gifted at his feet, brave to take the ball and shoot.

Many feel he'll become a world-class star in the future.

His goal today thrilled Turkey's fans too.

In the second half, the US wasn't content either.

Berhalter scored again for the US, two to two, leveling the score once more.

The two teams went back and forth, and right until the game neared its end, it was still two to two.

The fans wondered: is this going to be a draw?

But the most magical thing about soccer is the last moment.

When the game had reached deep into stoppage time, Turkey's Ayhan suddenly scored!

This goal came very late, almost the last kick of the game.

Three to two, Turkey snatched a winner at the final moment!

Turkey's players and fans all went wild, shouting and jumping, some moved to tears.

Why were they so emotional?

Because this was Turkey's first win at the World Cup in many years.

Waiting so long, and winning it with a goal at the very last moment — that joy is hard to describe.

Though this win couldn't change the qualifying outcome, for Turkey its meaning far exceeded three points.

And for the US, this defeat actually had little impact.

They'd long since locked up first in the group; even losing today, they still advanced as group winners.

So the US could set this game aside and put their energy into the knockouts ahead.

This game also tells us: a game's "importance" isn't just about points.

For the US, this was a game where winning or losing didn't matter;

but for Turkey, it was a game about honor and confidence.

The same ninety minutes, yet the two teams carried completely different things in their hearts.

And the Turkey that won in the end left with this joy and confidence — even without advancing, it was worth it.

That's Turkey three to two the US — a show set alight by a goal at the very last moment.
