Many people love watching football.
I love watching football too.
Today, I want to talk about a football match.
Many people wanted to watch this match.
In this match, there are two teams.
One team is big and strong.
The other team is small.
Everyone knows that strong team.
Few people know that small team.
Everyone thought: the strong team will win.
Everyone thought: the small team will lose.
Both teams came to play this match.
Both teams wanted to play well.
Lots and lots of people came to watch.
Everyone wanted to watch the strong team play.
Everyone wondered: how many goals will there be?
There really were so many people watching.
Everyone really wanted to know who would win.
And how many goals there would be.
The small team's players also wanted to play well.
They thought: we want to play well too.
They also wanted to make everyone happy.
Okay, now let's watch this match.
This very small team comes from a small country.
This country is called Cape Verde.
That very strong team is called Spain.
Spain is strong, and everyone is afraid of them.
On the Cape Verde team, there is one player.
This player is a goalkeeper.
"Goalkeeper" means the person who stands in front of the goal.
When others kick the ball, he has to block it.
Today, the one I want to talk about is him.
The match began.
Spain kept wanting to score.
Time and again they shot, trying to kick the ball in.
But this goalkeeper was amazing.
Spain shot once, he blocked it once.
Spain shot again, he blocked it again.
He jumped this way and that, blocking the ball the whole time.
One after another, he blocked all the balls.
The people watching said: this goalkeeper is really something!
And so, Spain didn't score a single goal.
In the end, the score was nil-nil.
Tiny Cape Verde didn't lose to Spain.
This really was a remarkable thing.
This goalkeeper is already forty years old this year.
For a footballer, forty is not young.
Many people stop playing by this age.
But he's still playing, and playing this well.
After the match, things changed.
Many people watched this match online.
Everyone saw this goalkeeper.
Everyone said: he's amazing!
Then, lots and lots of people started following him online.
These people, we call "fans."
Before, he had very, very few fans.
Before the match, few people knew him either.
But after the match, in one day, he gained tons of fans.
Not a few thousand, and not a few tens of thousands.
It was a few million!
In one day, a few million people came to follow him.
A forty-year-old goalkeeper became famous in an instant.
This really was so fast.
Yesterday, many people still didn't know him.
Today, the whole world knows him.
He himself probably never expected it.
He just played one match well.
He never imagined so many people would see him.
This is the fun thing about football.
Sometimes, a single match can change a person.
A goalkeeper from a small country can make the whole world remember him.
Many people really like this story.
Because this story makes people happy.
It tells us: as long as you do well, people will see you.
No matter how old you are, and no matter where you come from.
So, we should do our own things well too.
Who knows — one day, people might see you too.
Alright, that's it for today's story.
Thank you for listening — see you next time.
