Today we're talking about a World Cup match.

It's Scotland versus Haiti.

In the end Scotland beat Haiti one to zero.

This game had only one goal, but it meant a great deal.

Let's start with Scotland.

Scotland is a country that loves soccer dearly.

But at the World Cup they've always struggled.

You might not believe it: the last time they won a World Cup match was 1990.

That's already more than thirty years ago.

So for this game, they really wanted to win.

There's another thing you might not know.

Scotland has been to many World Cups, but never once got out of the group.

Every time, they played a few games and went home.

So for them, winning and earning points is a hard thing.

To win today was truly not easy.

When the match began, Scotland kept pushing forward.

They wanted to score early.

Haiti, for their part, mainly defended at the back.

Haiti knew the opponent was strong, so first they guarded their own goal.

Scotland shot many times and had plenty of chances.

At nearly thirty minutes, a chance came.

Scotland's McGinn took a shot.

But Haiti's keeper was sharp and pushed the ball away.

The fans all felt it was a shame.

But the ball bounced back, right to McGinn's feet again.

McGinn didn't waste the chance and followed up with another shot.

This time, the ball went in!

One to zero, Scotland in front.

With that goal, Scotland's people went wild.

Many fans shouted and jumped, and some even cried.

You might wonder: win one goal, why cry?

Because they had waited for this day far, far too long.

After scoring, Scotland still wanted another.

They shot several more times.

Some shots were too high, some were blocked by Haiti.

Sadly they couldn't score again.

So the score stayed one to zero.

In the second half, Haiti didn't want to lose like this.

They started pushing forward, trying to equalize.

Haiti worked hard too — passing, running, always trying.

But Scotland defended very steadily.

Haiti's shots were always blocked by Scotland.

Right to the end, Haiti couldn't score either.

The whistle blew, the score fixed at one to zero.

Scotland won, Haiti lost.

For Haiti, losing was of course a little sad.

But Haiti is a small country, and reaching the World Cup is already great.

They didn't play badly, and chances still lie ahead.

Many of Haiti's players play in other countries.

To come together at the World Cup is a big deal for their country too.

So even though they lost, they deserve our applause.

In this group, several teams want to advance.

So every game, every point matters.

Scotland won the first game and took three points.

That gives them a firmer footing in the group.

For Scotland, this game was hugely important.

After more than thirty years, they finally won a World Cup match again.

For many Scottish fans, this is a day they'll remember for life.

One goal sounds like little, but behind it lie many years of waiting.

Scotland's team also knows that winning one game isn't enough.

They still want to get out of the group and go further.

So having won this game, they're happy, but not too proud.

There are other opponents ahead, and they'll keep fighting.

That's the story of Scotland one to zero Haiti.
