A Funeral, a Bicycle, and the One Who Didn't Leave

Last time, on a swing, Lu Xixiao softly asked Zhou Wan one thing: do you want to fall in love.
那时的他，本来马上就要出国了。
Back then, he was about to go abroad at once.
今天，接着往下说。

可命运偏偏在这个时候，狠狠推了周挽一把——她相依为命的奶奶，走了。
But fate chose this very moment to shove Zhou Wan hard — the grandmother she'd depended on for life was gone.
奶奶病了很久，最后还是没能留住。
Grandma had been ill a long time, and in the end couldn't be kept.
从小到大，周挽的世界里只有奶奶一个亲人，如今这个人没了，她整个人一下子就空了。
All her life, Zhou Wan's world held only one family member — grandma; now that this person was gone, she suddenly felt hollow.

She shut herself in her room, not eating, not sleeping, in tears day and night.

Lu Xixiao saw it all, and it ached fiercely.
他本该踏上出国的路，可到了这一步，他哪儿也没去，就留在了周挽身边。
He was supposed to set off abroad, but at this point he went nowhere and stayed by Zhou Wan's side.
他一手帮她料理奶奶的后事，事无巨细，甚至连那个放高利贷的人，都因为从前受过恩，主动少收了利息。
He handled grandma's funeral for her, sparing no detail; even the loan shark, remembering an old kindness, quietly took less interest.
可就算这样，周挽还是迟迟走不出来。
And yet, even so, Zhou Wan still couldn't climb out of it.
有一天，她太想奶奶，一个人在家昏昏沉沉睡了过去，厨房里的水烧开溢出，浇灭了火，煤气一点点弥漫开来。
One day, missing grandma too much, she fell into a heavy sleep at home; the kitchen water boiled over, put out the flame, and gas slowly spread through the room.
眼看周挽就要中毒，是陆西骁及时赶到，一把砸碎窗户，把她从鬼门关前拉了回来，送进了医院。
Just as she was about to be poisoned, Lu Xixiao rushed in, smashed the window, dragged her back from death's door, and got her to the hospital.
出院之后，那道心里的伤，比身上的更难好。
After she was discharged, the wound in her heart was harder to heal than the one on her body.
陆西骁没有多说什么，只是紧紧抱着她，一天又一天地陪，一点一点，把她从深渊里拽了上来。
Lu Xixiao didn't say much; he just held her tightly, stayed day after day, and pulled her, bit by bit, up from the abyss.
慢慢地，周挽的脸上，终于又有了一点光。
Slowly, a little light returned to Zhou Wan's face.
后来，是周挽的生日。
Later, it was Zhou Wan's birthday.
她曾随口说过，想要一辆自行车。
She had once said, in passing, that she wanted a bicycle.
陆西骁就在游乐场熬了一整夜，一局一局地赢，硬是把那辆车赢了下来。
So Lu Xixiao stayed up a whole night at the arcade, winning round after round, until he'd won that bike.
他一个人，把那么沉的车扛上了楼顶，只为把她的一个小小心愿，实现给她看。
Alone, he hauled that heavy bike up to the rooftop, just to make one small wish of hers come true before her eyes.
不止如此，为了替周挽赎回那套差点保不住的房子，陆西骁把自己最宝贝的摩托车，也卖了。
Not only that — to redeem the house Zhou Wan had nearly lost, Lu Xixiao sold the motorbike he treasured most.
偏偏这时，周挽的妈妈又出现了，劝她趁早离开陆西骁。
And precisely then, Zhou Wan's mother appeared again, urging her to leave Lu Xixiao at once.
她说得很直白：你和他，根本不是一个世界的人。
She said it bluntly: you and he are simply not from the same world.
可这一回，陆西骁没有走，周挽也没有再把他推开。
But this time, Lu Xixiao didn't leave, and Zhou Wan didn't push him away again.
奶奶不在了，可陆西骁一直都在。
Grandma was gone, but Lu Xixiao was always there.
这个夏天最黑的那段日子，是他，把周挽一寸一寸，从黑暗里拉了回来。
In the darkest stretch of that summer, it was he who pulled Zhou Wan, inch by inch, back out of the dark.
