Palantir's revenue from U.S. businesses this quarter exceeded its revenue from the U.S. government for the first time.
Commercial customers brought in $984 million, while government customers accounted for $953 million.
Total revenue for the quarter was $2.31 billion, an increase of 96%.
This is the company's first quarter with revenue exceeding $2 billion.
Wall Street had expected $2.18 billion, and the actual figure was higher than expected.
U.S. commercial revenue rose 148%, while government revenue rose 96%.
Profit was $1.13 billion, or 44 cents per share.
In the same period last year, it was $476 million, or 18 cents per share.
On an adjusted basis, earnings per share were 44 cents, while the market expected 41 cents.
However, only 212 new contracts were signed this quarter, worth $2.9 billion.
The previous quarter had 220 contracts worth $3.4 billion, indicating a slight slowdown in pace.
The company raised its full-year revenue guidance to approximately $8.53 billion.
It also expects U.S. commercial revenue to grow at least 143% this year, exceeding $3.56 billion.
The rapid growth of commercial customers is related to what Palantir sells.
It does not build models itself; instead, it helps companies apply artificial intelligence to their own data.
In a letter to shareholders, Karp said that businesses are moving away from AI labs.
His reasoning is that these labs use companies' private data to train models, and companies are unwilling to hand it over.
In September, Palantir announced a partnership with Nvidia that lets users control their own data.
Karp also wrote that this is not ordinary growth, and that such speed has no rival in recent economic history.
However, analyst DiPalma said in a research note that the biggest risk is increasing competition from large-model companies.
Some models can read various kinds of data, draw their own conclusions, and cost only a fraction of the original.
What's more troublesome is that model companies are poaching talent from Palantir.
After the earnings report was released, the stock price fell more than 3% in after-hours trading.
Investors are worried about whether this pace can be sustained and whether the valuation of more than $400 billion can hold up.
Its deep ties with the U.S. military make this part of the business hard to replace.
The Army's command system uses its technology, and the Pentagon's AI targeting system also uses it.
The Marine Corps recently expanded the use of the latter system to more units.
But in the U.K., Parliament is facing pressure to end a contract signed with Palantir.
The contract is for managing the U.K.'s public health data.
Investor Ryan Lee said that without major changes in European politics, overseas expansion will be difficult.
