Florida Governor DeSantis said the plane looked like a missile, heading straight down toward the ground.
He described it as a catastrophic plane crash; all nine people on board died, and no one survived.
The incident happened at noon on Sunday, when a Learjet 60 business jet crashed in a residential area of Palm Beach County.
This was a business jet, used by private individuals or companies, and much smaller than a regular passenger plane.
It was originally flying from Austin, Texas, to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas.
According to aviation industry media reports, the plane took off from Austin at 9:37 a.m.
The crash occurred at around 12:50 p.m. local time, near Cresthaven.
The place it came down was a road in a residential area, with a mobile home community nearby.
This accident drew attention partly because of the heavy casualties and partly because the location was so ordinary.
Videos circulating on social media showed the plane exploding into a fireball the moment it hit the ground.
These images have been verified; indeed, a large crater was left in the road.
DeSantis said the debris was scattered over a very wide area, showing how violent the impact was.
However, he said that apart from those on board, there were currently no reports of other people dead or injured.
For residents living nearby, this counts as a bit of luck in misfortune.
Because the scene was still dangerous, authorities moved residents of the mobile home community to a shelter.
So, why did the plane go down?
There is no answer to this question yet.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration said the National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation, with the FAA assisting.
According to aviation industry media reports, the pilot had communicated with the ground by radio before the crash.
He said the plane encountered light icing and moderate turbulence, and the icing was still manageable.
However, this communication is only one clue; it cannot be said that it caused the crash.
The Learjet 60 is manufactured by Bombardier, and the company said it is deeply saddened by this event.
Bombardier also said it will support and cooperate with the authorities' investigation.
As for the cause of the crash, the company said the investigation is still ongoing, so it cannot comment.
In addition, the identities of the nine people on board have not been released; officials have not disclosed any information.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Duffy asked people on social media to pray for the families and friends of the victims.
In the coming days, investigators will examine the debris scattered everywhere and will also retrieve that radio communication.
As for who these nine people were and why they were on this plane, there are still no answers.
