Today let's talk about a knockout game that can only be called crazy: from the desperate position of two goals down, Belgium staged a stunning comeback, beating Senegal three to two to advance to the next round.
The plot of this game was more thrilling than a movie.
First, a word on Belgium.
Belgium, known as the "Red Devils of Europe," are packed with talent, one of the acknowledged strong sides of this World Cup.
Before kickoff, almost everyone assumed they'd win easily.
Now look at Senegal.
This is an African powerhouse full of power and pace, playing fast and fierce.
From the start of the game, it was entirely Senegal's show.
Their Diarra and Sarr scored one after another, building a two-goal lead in the first half and the start of the second.
Zero to two, Belgium were backed to the edge of the cliff, on the verge of a shock exit.
The Belgium fans in the stands fell terrifyingly silent for a while.
Yet a truly strong team never bows its head easily.
In the game's final stage, Belgium went all in and launched a frenzied fightback.
They threw everyone forward who could go, wave after wave crashing at Senegal's goal.
In the eighty-sixth minute, substitute Lukaku seized a chance in front of goal and scored, pulling one crucial goal back for Belgium.
That goal instantly lit up the whole team and the Red Devil fans across the stadium.
Just three minutes later, in the eighty-ninth, Tielemans scored again, hauling the score level at two to two.
From zero-two to two-two, Belgium took only a few short minutes to drag themselves back from the cliff's edge.
On the strength of those two lethal goals, Belgium forced the game into extra time.
In extra time, the two sides fought to an exhausting stalemate, neither willing to fall first.
Just as everyone assumed it would be settled on penalties, the most dramatic moment arrived.
In the one-hundred-and-twenty-fifth minute, after a video review, the referee awarded Belgium a penalty.
Under enormous pressure, again it was Tielemans, who did it in one go and slotted it home coolly.
Three to two!
Belgium had completed the last-gasp winner.
Worth noting: this goal set the record for the latest goal in World Cup history.
And Belgium became the first team since they themselves in 2018 to recover from two goals down and turn a knockout tie around.
So, how should this game be judged?
For Belgium, this is a stirring comeback fit for the history books.
The never-give-up will they showed is precisely what makes a top team so fearsome.
As long as the game isn't over, they always believe they can win.
For Senegal, this defeat is truly cruel.
They did almost everything right, held a huge two-goal lead, and looked about to make history.
Sadly, on the pitch a lead never equals victory; fail to kill the game off, and you pay the price.
From two goals up to knocked out on a last-gasp goal — a blow like that takes a long time to get over.
But their daring, all-out first-half display equally deserves everyone's respect.
That's Belgium three to two Senegal, a game belonging to courage, and to Tielemans.
See you next match.
