Speaking of Europe's most important political news recently, it's what's happening tomorrow.
Tomorrow is April 12th, Sunday.
There's a small country in Europe called Hungary.
Hungary is electing a new leader tomorrow.
Why is this election so important?
Because it may change European politics.
Let's first talk about Hungary's current leader.
His name is Orbán.
Orbán has been prime minister for 16 years.
From 2010 until now, it's always been him.
He has won four elections.
He changed the country's constitution.
He controls most of the media.
He lets his friends be judges.
Because of these arrangements, he wins every election.
What kind of person is Orbán?
He calls himself a "Christian democrat."
But people outside use a different word.
They call him an "illiberal democrat."
What does that mean?
It means although there are still elections, the country is no longer a real democracy.
The rules have been changed.
The opposition can't win.
Many European countries don't like Orbán.
They think he has damaged EU values.
The EU has even frozen money for Hungary.
Because Orbán doesn't listen.
But Orbán has two good friends.
One is Russia's Putin.
One is America's Trump.
These two strongmen both like Orbán.
Orbán also likes them.
He doesn't join other European countries in helping Ukraine.
He often votes against things in the EU.
So many Europeans hope he will step down.
But he never has.
Until recently.
Recently a new person has emerged.
His name is Péter Magyar.
Magyar is 44 years old.
Much younger than Orbán.
The most interesting thing is that Magyar used to be Orbán's person.
He worked in Orbán's circle for many years.
His ex-wife was even a senior official in Orbán's government.
He used to be "part of the system."
But two years ago he suddenly turned.
Why did he turn?
Because of a very serious incident.
Orbán's government pardoned someone who did very bad things.
That person was related to a child abuse case.
The whole country was shocked.
Magyar thought this was very wrong.
He publicly criticized the government.
He left Orbán's circle.
Then he started organizing his own political party.
This party is called Tisza.
Tisza is a river in Hungary.
Magyar has one characteristic.
He dares to tell the truth.
He traveled the whole country.
Thousands of people come to hear his speeches everywhere.
This hasn't been seen in Hungary for many years.
What does he say?
He says he will crack down on corruption.
He says he will reconcile with the EU.
He will bring the frozen European money back.
He will reduce dependence on Russian energy.
He says: "We don't want to live in fear anymore."
"This country belongs to everyone."
"Not just those at the top."
These words move many people.
Especially young people.
Especially those who feel the country has no hope.
What's the current polling situation?
Most polls say Magyar's Tisza party is leading.
Some polls say Tisza is around 49%.
Orbán's ruling party is around 40%.
But different polls give very different results.
Some polls say Orbán will still win.
Polls aren't always accurate.
The real answer has to wait until tomorrow.
Even if Magyar wins, it won't be simple.
Because Orbán controls many things.
He might not accept the result.
He might find excuses to overturn the election.
These things have happened in other countries.
So many people are very nervous.
All watching tomorrow closely.
The result of this election doesn't just affect Hungary.
It affects all of Europe.
If Orbán wins again.
That shows his "illiberal democracy" model can continue.
This will encourage right-wing politicians in other European countries.
If Magyar wins.
That shows even someone like Orbán can be voted out.
Democracy still has hope.
So people all over Europe are waiting for tomorrow's result.
U.S. Vice President Vance went to Hungary to visit Orbán last month.
This is supporting him.
It shows the Trump side is also worried.
After tomorrow, we'll know the answer.
After tomorrow, we'll know Europe's direction.
