Do you often buy food online?

Buying things online is convenient, and cheap too.

But is the food sold online always real?

Recently, China's Supreme People's Court described several cases of fake food sold online.

The first case is about fake honey.

Someone surnamed Huang in Henan made honey at home.

But this honey was fake; it was made from sugar water.

This person stuck foreign-language labels on the bottles and said it was good imported honey.

The fake honey was sold very cheaply, only about six yuan a jin.

The listing said: buy one bottle, get five.

There were about twelve hundred orders a day.

One kind of fake honey sold more than 34,000 orders in two months.

Altogether, this person sold more than two million yuan's worth.

Tests found that there was nothing from real honey in it at all.

The court sentenced this person to fifteen years in prison and a fine of 1.2 million yuan.

The second case is about fake camel milk powder.

Camel milk powder is made from camel's milk, and lots of older people and students like drinking it.

Three people took cheap milk powder, put foreign labels on it, and said it was imported camel milk powder.

They also said drinking it would make you healthier.

But tests found that the things that should be in the powder were far too low.

They sold four hundred thousand yuan's worth, and all of them ended up in prison.

The third case is about diet sweets.

Someone sold diet sweets on a livestream, saying they would make you beautiful.

But these sweets contained a drug.

Some people felt dizzy and weak after eating them.

The seller said: that's because you're taking them the wrong way.

In the end, two people were sentenced to prison.

The fourth case is about restaurants online.

To open a restaurant online, you need a licence.

Someone made more than 3,900 fake licences on a computer and sold each one for fifty to three hundred yuan.

Some people bought fake licences and opened restaurants on food-delivery apps.

Where these restaurants were and who cooked the food, nobody knew.

Restaurants like these have a name: "ghost takeout."

The person who made the fake licences was sentenced to six years.

The court said: bad food sold online spreads its harm faster and further than food sold in shops.

Next time you buy food online, what will you check first?
