"变成中国人"——美国年轻人的新流行
Chinamaxxing — Young Americans Are Copying the Chinese Daily Routine
HSK 3 Chinese listening practice. The Chinamaxxing trend explained: hot water, slippers, Ba Duan Jin, hotpot, uncle-core style — and why $94k in student debt and 35% rent are pushing US Gen Z to imitate Chinese life.
This is an HSK 3-4 Chinese listening episode that runs about 8 minutes. The full Mandarin script is shown with tap-for-pinyin and a line-by-line English translation, so you can listen and read at once — comprehensible input in the sense of Stephen Krashen's i+1 theory. It teaches 12 key vocabulary words such as 习惯、节目、健康 and walks through 6 grammar patterns, each explained in English with examples. The same news story is retold at 4 difficulty levels — use the level selector above to find the version that is challenging but still understandable for you.

她在 TikTok 上做视频。

他的直播,几千万人看。

很多美国年轻人就是看了他的直播,才开始关注中国。
Many young Americans only started paying attention to China after watching his livestream.
然后他们想:我也想试试中国的生活。
Then they thought: I also want to try Chinese life.
这就是 Chinamaxxing 的开始。
That's the start of Chinamaxxing.
但是,我们要问一个问题。
But, we have to ask a question.
为什么呢?
Why?
为什么他们想变成中国人?
Why do they want to become Chinese?
是因为中国真的那么好吗?
Is it because China really is that good?
不完全是。
Not entirely.
更深的原因,其实是美国的生活。
The deeper reason, actually, is American life.
对美国年轻人来说,现在的生活很累。
For young Americans, life right now is exhausting.
我说几个数字。
Let me say a few numbers.
你听了就懂。
You'll understand when you hear them.
读大学很贵。
College is expensive.
他们读完书,平均要还差不多 94000 美元。
On average, they owe about $94,000 in student loans after graduating.
这是一笔很大的钱。
That's a huge sum.
意味着他们工作以后,前十年都在还学校的钱。
It means in their first ten years of working, they're paying back school debt.
看医生也很贵。
Seeing a doctor is expensive too.
每年差不多要花 5000 美元。
About $5,000 per year on average.
就算你不生病,也要花钱。
Even if you don't get sick, you still spend money.
房子更贵。
Housing is even more expensive.
他们工作很久。
They work a long time.
但是工资的三分之一,都花在房子上。
But about a third of their salary goes to rent.

Many people are thirty and still living with their parents.
他们买不起房子。
They can't afford a house.
他们觉得,自己没有未来。
They feel they have no future.
他们对生活,已经很失望了。
They've already become very disappointed in life.
所以他们看中国的视频,就想:
So when they see the Chinese videos, they think:
那边的人,好像生活得更轻松一点。
Those people over there seem to live a bit more easily.
喝热水。
Drinking hot water.
穿拖鞋。
Wearing slippers.
早睡早起。
Sleeping early and rising early.
跟朋友一起吃火锅。
Eating hotpot with friends.
慢慢地生活。
Living slowly.
他们觉得,这才是人应该过的生活。
They think: this is the way a person should live.
当然,懂中国的人会说:
Of course, people who know China will say:
中国年轻人也很累啊。
Chinese young people are exhausted too.
中国也有"996"。
China also has "996."
就是早上九点上班,晚上九点下班,一个星期工作六天。
That's nine a.m. to nine p.m., six days a week.
中国的房子也很贵。
Housing in China is expensive too.
中国也有"内卷"。
China also has "neijuan."
"内卷"就是大家都在拼,但是没有人真的赢。
"Neijuan" means everyone is racing, but no one really wins.
这些都是真的。
All of this is true.
所以这个事情,不是说中国的生活就一定比美国好。
So this thing doesn't mean Chinese life is necessarily better than American life.
是说,美国年轻人对自己的生活,已经不满意了。
It means young Americans are already unhappy with their own lives.
他们在找别的路。
They're looking for another path.
他们看见了中国的一些东西。
They saw something in China.
觉得好,就拿来用。
What looks good, they take and use.
觉得不合适的,就放下。
What doesn't fit, they put down.
他们不是真的想变成中国人。
They don't really want to become Chinese.
他们是想变成那个,可以慢一点的人。
They want to become someone who can slow down.
是想变成那个,可以好好吃饭、好好睡觉的人。
They want to become someone who can eat well, sleep well.
还有一个有意思的地方。
There's another interesting angle.
以前,是中国人想学美国人。
In the past, it was Chinese people learning from Americans.
那是几十年的事情了。
That was decades ago.
中国人想去美国留学。
Chinese people wanted to study in America.
想去美国工作。
Wanted to work in America.
中国人想喝可乐,吃汉堡。
Chinese people wanted cola and hamburgers.
想过圣诞节。
Wanted to celebrate Christmas.
那是那个时代的"现代生活"。
That was that era's idea of "modern life."
现在反过来了。
Now it's flipped.
美国年轻人想学中国人。
Young Americans want to learn from Chinese people.
他们想喝热水。
They want to drink hot water.
想吃火锅。
Want to eat hotpot.
想穿拖鞋。
Want to wear slippers.
想做八段锦。
Want to do Ba Duan Jin.
两边好像在交换。
The two sides seem to be swapping.
这个事情说明,世界变了。
This shows that the world has changed.
以前我们都在向一个方向看。
We all used to look in one direction.
现在不一样了。
Now it's different.
我自己看到这个新闻,有一种很特别的感觉。
When I saw this news, I had a very particular feeling.
我们这些学中文的人,其实也在做一种 Chinamaxxing。
We who learn Chinese are actually doing a kind of Chinamaxxing too.
我们也在学中国人的生活。
We're also learning the Chinese way of life.
我们也喜欢中国的东西。
We also like Chinese things.
你今天来听这个节目,也是这个事情的一部分。
You listening to this show today are part of this thing too.
最后我想问你一个问题。
Finally, I want to ask you a question.
你呢?
What about you?
你开始学中文以后。
After you started learning Chinese.
你的生活里,有没有一些事情,也变得"更中国"了?
Are there things in your life that have quietly become "more Chinese"?
也许是你吃的东西。
Maybe it's the food you eat.
也许是你睡觉的时间。
Maybe it's the time you sleep.
也许是你看世界的方式。
Maybe it's the way you see the world.
也许是一个你常说的中文词。
Maybe it's a Chinese phrase you often say.
你想一想。
Think about it.
你身上的"中国",是从哪里来的?
The "Chinese" part inside you — where does it come from?
你慢慢想,不用急。
Take your time, no rush.
