AI只是一个很好的计算器
AI Is Just a Really Good Calculator — Luc Julia on the Intelligence Illusion
HSK 2 Chinese listening practice. French author Luc Julia argues AI isn't smart — it's just a powerful calculator, and the smart-machine idea is illusion.
This is an HSK 2 Chinese listening episode that runs about 3 minutes. The full Mandarin script is shown with tap-for-pinyin and a line-by-line English translation, so you can listen and read at once — comprehensible input in the sense of Stephen Krashen's i+1 theory. It teaches 15 key vocabulary words such as 人工智能、聪明、计算器 and walks through 6 grammar patterns, each explained in English with examples. The same news story is retold at 4 difficulty levels — use the level selector above to find the version that is challenging but still understandable for you.
今天我们说一说人工智能。
Today we are going to talk about artificial intelligence.
很多人觉得人工智能很聪明。
Many people think artificial intelligence is very smart.
但是它真的聪明吗?
But is it really smart?
有一个法国人叫吕克。
There is a French person named Luc.
他写了一本书。
He wrote a book.
这本书很有意思。
This book is very interesting.
书的名字叫《人工智能的错觉》。
The book is called "The Illusion of Artificial Intelligence."
他说人工智能不是真的聪明。
He says artificial intelligence is not really smart.
它只是一个很好的计算器。
It is just a very good calculator.
计算器可以算数。
A calculator can do math.
算得很快,很好。
It does math very fast and very well.
但是计算器不会想事情。
But a calculator cannot think about things.
人工智能也是这样的。
Artificial intelligence is the same way.
它可以做很多事情。
It can do many things.
比如写文章。
For example, write articles.
比如画画。
For example, draw pictures.
比如回答问题。
For example, answer questions.
但是它不是在想。
But it is not thinking.
它在算。
It is calculating.
这两个不一样。
These two things are different.
我们人会想事情。
We humans can think about things.
我们会高兴,会难过。
We can feel happy and feel sad.
我们会爱一个人。
We can love a person.
但是人工智能不会。
But artificial intelligence cannot.
它没有感觉。
It has no feelings.
"人工智能"这个词很老了。
The term "artificial intelligence" is very old.
一九五六年就有了。
It was created in 1956.
到现在七十年了。
It has been seventy years until now.
很多人听了这个词。
Many people heard this term.
他们觉得机器有了智能。
They think machines have intelligence.
但是这个想法是错的。
But this idea is wrong.
虽然人工智能很厉害,但是它不聪明。
Although artificial intelligence is very powerful, it is not smart.
因为它只会做一件事情,所以它不像人。
Because it can only do one thing, it is not like a person.
比如一个人工智能会下棋。
For example, an AI can play chess.
它下棋比人好。
It plays chess better than people.
但是你问它今天天气怎么样。
But if you ask it what the weather is like today.
它不知道。
It does not know.
你让它去买东西。
If you ask it to go buy things.
它也不会。
It cannot do that either.
它只会做一个事情。
It can only do one thing.
人不一样。
People are different.
人什么都可以学。
People can learn anything.
人可以学做饭。
People can learn to cook.
也可以学开车。
They can also learn to drive.
还可以学说新的语言。
They can also learn to speak a new language.
人工智能做不到。
Artificial intelligence cannot do that.
我们为什么觉得它聪明呢?
Why do we think it is smart?
因为我们看了太多电影了。
Because we have watched too many movies.
电影里的机器人会说话。
The robots in movies can talk.
会想事情,会有感觉。
They can think about things and have feelings.
但是那是电影。
But that is just movies.
不是真的。
It is not real.
真的人工智能很不一样。
Real artificial intelligence is very different.
我们喜欢把机器想成人。
We like to think of machines as people.
我的手机有时候很慢。
Sometimes my phone is very slow.
我会说它"累了"。
I will say it is "tired."
但是手机不会累。
But a phone does not get tired.
它是机器。
It is a machine.
人工智能也是机器。
Artificial intelligence is also a machine.
虽然它很有用,但是它没有在想。
Although it is very useful, it is not thinking.
所以我们不要太怕它。
So we should not be too afraid of it.
也不要太相信它。
And we should not trust it too much.
那本书说的对。
That book is right.
人工智能只是工具。
Artificial intelligence is just a tool.
它是人做的。
It is made by people.
它帮人做事情。
It helps people do things.
但是它不是人。
But it is not a person.
今年三月,一个很有名的杂志说了这个事情。
This March, a very famous magazine talked about this.
那个杂志叫《自然》。
That magazine is called Nature.
因为很多人不了解人工智能,所以他们太相信它了。
Because many people do not understand AI, they trust it too much.
虽然人工智能很好用,但是我们要知道它的问题。
Although AI is very useful, we need to know its problems.
它只是一个很好的工具,不是真的智能。
It is just a very good tool, not real intelligence.
A common adjective used to describe someone (or something) intelligent. HSK 2 word.
HSK 2 word. The episode says we think AI is smart because of movies (电影).
HSK 2 word. Used many times: 想事情 (think about things), 做事情 (do things).
人工 means 'man-made' and 智能 means 'intelligence'. Together they form the Chinese term for AI.
计算 means 'to calculate' and 器 means 'device'. A key metaphor in this episode — AI is just a calculator.
错 means 'wrong' and 觉 means 'feeling/perception'. The book title uses this word: 人工智能的错觉.
The episode's main point: AI is just a tool (工具), not a thinking being.
Used throughout the episode. 机器人 (jī qì rén) means 'robot' — literally 'machine person'.
The episode says AI has no 感觉 — no feelings. Can be a noun or verb.
A very common word meaning 'awesome' or 'formidable'. Used here: 虽然人工智能很厉害.
The episode warns: 不要太相信它 — don't trust AI too much.
很多人不了解人工智能 — many people don't understand AI. Deeper understanding than just 知道.
The episode mentions the journal Nature (《自然》杂志) reporting on AI misconceptions.
人可以学说新的语言 — humans can learn to speak new languages. AI cannot.
AI can 回答问题 (answer questions), but it's calculating, not thinking.
