有一个人骂了学生。
A man insulted some students.
这个人是一个大公司的老板。
This man is the boss of a big company.
他骂的，是一所很有名的大学的学生。
The students he insulted were from a very famous university.
这件事在中国，大家都在说。
This event is being talked about all over China.
我们慢慢说。

先说这个公司。
First, let's talk about the company.
这个公司叫粉笔。
This company is called Fenbi.
粉笔是什么呢？
What is "fenbi"?
粉笔就是老师在学校用来写字的东西。
"Fenbi" is the thing teachers use to write on the board at school.
粉笔写出来的字是白色的。
Whatever fenbi writes comes out white.
但是这里的粉笔，不是写字的粉笔。
But the "fenbi" we're talking about here isn't the chalk for writing.
是一个公司的名字。
It's the name of a company.
这个公司是一个很大的公司。
This company is a very big company.
是中国的大公司。
It's a big company in China.
这个公司做什么呢？
What does this company do?
这个公司教学生考试。
This company teaches students how to take exams.
什么考试呢？
What exams?
公务员考试。
The civil service exam.
公务员是什么呢？
What is a civil servant?
公务员是一种工作。
A civil servant is a kind of job.
做公务员的人，给国家做事。
People who are civil servants do work for the government.
做公务员的人，钱不是很多。
People who are civil servants don't make a lot of money.
但是这种工作很稳定。
But this kind of job is very stable.
什么叫稳定呢？
What does "stable" mean?
稳定就是：不会没有工作。
"Stable" means: you won't suddenly have no job.
今年有工作。
This year you have work.
明年也有工作。
Next year you also have work.
工作一直都在。
The job stays.
所以很多中国大学生想做公务员。
So lots of Chinese university students want to be civil servants.
他们觉得这种工作很好。
They feel that this kind of job is very good.
但是想做公务员，要考试。
But to be a civil servant, you have to take a test.
什么是考试呢？
What is a test?
考试就是用笔在纸上写字。
A test is using a pen to write words on paper.
答得对，分数就高。
If you answer correctly, your score is high.
分数高，就可以做公务员。
If your score is high, you can be a civil servant.
分数不高，就不能做公务员。
If your score isn't high, you can't.
所以学生需要上课。
So students need to take classes.
上课就是去学怎么考。
Taking classes means going to learn how to take the test.
这个叫粉笔的公司，就是教这个的。
This company called Fenbi teaches exactly this.
他们用手机教，也用电脑教。
They teach with phones, and with computers.
课不太贵。
The classes aren't very expensive.

Later he started this company on his own.

He made a lot of money.

This university is called Renmin University.

What is a lecture?
讲座就是：一个人站在前面说话。
A lecture means: one person stands at the front and speaks.
学生坐在下面听。
Students sit below and listen.
讲座本来要说什么呢？
What was the lecture supposed to be about?
本来要说公务员考试的事。
It was supposed to be about the civil service exam.
张小龙最熟悉这个。
Zhang Xiaolong knows that subject best.
但是讲座要开始的时候。

骂就是：说不好的话。
"Cursing" means: saying bad things.

他说："你们找不到工作，是应该的。
He said: "It's right that you can't find jobs."
"应该的"是什么意思呢？
What does "it's right" mean?
意思是：这是你们自己的问题。
It means: this is your own problem.

He also said: "Other than taking the civil service exam, you don't know anything."
他还说："考公务员就是混吃等死。
He also said: "Taking the civil service exam is just 'eating and waiting to die.'"
"混吃等死"是什么意思呢？
What does "eating and waiting to die" mean?

中国有一句老话。
There's an old saying in China.
这句话是：吃了别人的饭，再骂做饭的人。
The saying is: after eating someone else's food, then cursing the cook.
这句话的意思就是：一个人忘了，他的钱是别人给的。
This saying means: a person has forgotten that their money came from someone else.
很多人说，张小龙就是这样。
A lot of people are saying Zhang Xiaolong is exactly like this.

也 means 'also'. It goes between subject and verb, never at the start of the sentence.

了 after a verb marks a completed action — often translates as past tense in English.

Subject + 想 + Verb-phrase
想 + verb means 'want to do something'. Use 想 before another verb.
