X 一边 ... 一边 ... / X 在 ... 也 ...
Reach for this when one subject is doing two things at the same moment. 一边...一边... is the dedicated structure for simultaneous actions — 'while doing X, also doing Y' — and it's used constantly for everyday multitasking: eating while watching TV, walking while talking. The cousin pattern 在...也... is looser, often used when two subjects (or one subject doing two things) are both happening in the same situation. Both signal overlap in time.

How to Think About It
一边 literally means 'one side' — each 一边 marks one parallel track of activity, like splitting your attention between two lanes. The two verbs share the same subject and same time window; if you put 一边 only in front of one verb and not the other, the parallel collapses. Both 一边's are required for the structure to read as simultaneous. 在...也... is weaker — it just notes co-occurrence, without claiming intentional multitasking.

Common Mistake
Learners use 一边 only once and put 和 between the verbs ('一边吃饭和看电视') because they're translating 'while eating and watching TV.' 一边 must appear in front of BOTH verbs to mark them as parallel tracks.

Don't Confuse With
在 [VERB]ing (progressive)
Marks one action in progress; doesn't pair two. Use 在 + verb for 'he's eating right now'; use 一边...一边... when two actions are happening at once.
同时
'At the same time' — more formal/abstract. Used to link two clauses or facts ('同时，我们也要注意...'). Use 一边...一边... for physical, concurrent actions of one person; use 同时 for parallel situations or arguments.
又...又... (for actions)
Lists two qualities or actions someone does, not necessarily simultaneous. '又唱又跳' implies both, but the structure doesn't strictly require they overlap in time. 一边...一边... insists on the overlap.
