Privacy policy

Fluentide is an AI-powered Chinese listening practice platform. We generate podcast-style episodes using real news and topics, with text-to-speech audio. You listen, answer comprehension questions, and build your Fluent Score over time.

Account information

• Email address (required to sign up)
• Display name (if you sign in with Google)
• Your learning preferences (pinyin display, translation display, preferred level)

Learning data

• Fluent Score and level progression
• Placement test answers, timing, and results
• Placement test results
• Episodes you listen to and how long you listen
• Words you save to your vocabulary list
• Episodes you save to your collection

Payment information

• Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number, billing address, or payment details. We only store your Stripe customer ID and subscription status (plan, start/end dates, whether it's active).

Product usage

• On the website and in the iOS app, we record basic product usage events (screens and pages you view, episodes you play, paywall views, and purchases) in Fluentide's own database. They are linked to your account, or to a random browser or device ID before you sign up.
• We use these events only to improve Fluentide. They are never sold and never used for advertising.
• In the iOS app you can turn this off: answer “No thanks” to the analytics prompt, or switch off “Help improve Fluentide” in Settings.

Third-party analytics

• Website: usage events are also sent to PostHog (product analytics, processed in the United States), and Microsoft Clarity records sessions and heatmaps.
• iOS app: usage events go to PostHog only if you choose “Allow analytics”. The app does not use Clarity.

Teacher worksheet transcripts

When you use the Chinese listening worksheet tool, a transcript is sent only to create the requested worksheet. A signed-in teacher-ready request may be processed by our AI provider and creates a private result for up to seven days. We do not store the raw transcript separately, put it in analytics, or share it with other users. Only submit material you have the right to use.

What we do NOT collect

• We do not access your microphone or record your voice
• We do not track your location
• We do not use advertising trackers or sell your data to advertisers
• We do not fingerprint your device

• Personalization: Your Fluent Score determines which episodes you see.
• Service delivery: Sending transactional emails (welcome, subscription confirmation).
• Product improvement: Analytics help us understand which features are used and where users get stuck.
• Billing: Managing your subscription via Stripe.

• Authentication cookies: Supabase session cookies keep you logged in.
• App state: We use localStorage for preferences like dismissed prompts and anonymous listen counts.

We share data with these services to operate Fluentide:

• Supabase — database and authentication (stores your account and learning data)
• Stripe — payment processing (handles all billing securely)
• Resend — transactional email delivery (receives your email address to send you emails)
• PostHog — product analytics (on the website, and in the iOS app only with your consent)
• Microsoft Clarity — session recording and heatmaps (website only)
• Vercel — hosting and CDN
• Cloudflare — audio file storage and delivery
• Google — OAuth sign-in (if you choose to sign in with Google)

We do not sell your data to any third party.

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your profile, learning history, saved words, placement results, and product usage events from our database. Anonymous page-view counts are kept, with the link to your account removed. Analytics data in PostHog and Clarity may be retained according to their own retention policies.

• You can delete your account at any time from Settings.
• You can export your learning data by contacting us.
• In the iOS app, you can turn off usage analytics in Settings under “Help improve Fluentide”.
• On the website, you can opt out of analytics by using a browser ad blocker.

Fluentide is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this policy as Fluentide evolves. We'll update the date at the top when we do. Continued use of Fluentide after changes means you accept the updated policy.
