HSK 4 Chinese Listening Practice

HSK 4 is where you stop translating sentence by sentence and start tracking ideas across a paragraph. Vocabulary doubles to about 1,200 words.

Stories share the HSK 3–4 pool but lean into opinion and longer news. If a piece runs ahead of you, hear the same story at HSK 3 first.

Is HSK 4 enough for a job in China?

HSK 4 is the usual floor for entry-level work in China — service, support, junior business, some teaching. At about 1,200 words you can read email, follow familiar meetings, and explain your job.

It is not enough for technical, legal, medical, or report-heavy roles. Those usually need HSK 5. Treat HSK 4 as the door, then keep going.
