What is Chinese 听写?

听写 literally combines “listen” and “write.” In Mandarin dictation practice, you hear a phrase or sentence and reconstruct it in Chinese characters. The gap between recognizing a word in conversation and recalling its exact characters makes 听写 especially useful for listening accuracy and literacy.

How to practice Chinese dictation

  1. Choose a short passage near your current level.
  2. Listen once for meaning, then replay at a slower speed if needed.
  3. Type the full sentence before checking.
  4. Review omitted and replaced characters, then practice mistakes again.
