X 不只是 ...，Y 也是 ...
Reach for this when you want to redefine the scope of a topic — 'it's not just about X, it's also about Y.' The first clause limits what people might assume; the second clause expands the frame to a larger or different domain. Common in commentary that wants to argue 'this story is bigger than it looks.' The 不只是 names the obvious narrow reading; the parallel 也是 names the bigger truth you want the audience to see.

How to Think About It
Think of it as zooming out the camera. The 不只是 half is the close-up shot people start with; the 也是 half pulls the lens back to reveal what's actually in frame. Crucially, this pattern allows the SECOND subject to be different from the first ('this event' → 'many countries') — that's what distinguishes it from a simple 不只...还... where the subject stays put.

Common Mistake
Learners drop the 是 from 也是 ('Y也...') because they remember 也 alone as 'also.' In this pattern the second half is parallel in structure to the first (X 不只是 ...), so the 是 stays. Without it, the parallelism breaks.

不只...还...
Adds a second predicate to the SAME subject — 'not only X, also does Y.' Use this pattern when the second clause introduces a NEW subject or a redefined frame; use 不只...还 when the subject stays the same.

Very close; same logic with slightly more formal register. Use 不只是...也是 in speech and journalism; 不仅...也 in essays and analytical writing.
