Yesterday was a very happy day for Mexicans.

Because the Mexican team won — they beat South Africa two to zero.

This was Mexico's first match of this World Cup.

For them, this match was especially important.

Because it was the first game played in their own country.

Last night, the Mexican team played in Mexico City.

The stadium is very famous — it's called the Estadio Azteca.

This stadium is huge and can seat a lot of people.

And it's very old, built many years ago.

Many famous matches have been played here.

Yesterday, more than eighty thousand people came to watch.

The stadium was almost all Mexican fans.

Everyone wore clothes of the same color.

Everyone sang together and shouted loudly.

The atmosphere in the stadium was wonderful, really lively.

For South Africa, playing in a stadium like this was a lot of pressure.

From the start, the Mexican team played well.

They kept pushing forward, wanting to score early.

Just nine minutes in, Mexico scored the first goal.

The scorer was named Quiñones.

He ran to the goal, seized the chance, and kicked the ball into the net.

The people in the stadium all stood up at once.

Everyone shouted and jumped, very happy.

One to zero, Mexico in front.

Scoring so early was good news for Mexico.

After scoring one goal, the Mexican team grew more confident.

They kept wanting to score another.

South Africa tried hard too — they wanted to score as well.

But Mexico played better, and South Africa didn't get many chances.

For the whole first half, it was mostly Mexico playing.

When the first half ended, it was still one to zero.

The second half began, and Mexico kept pushing forward.

Later, Mexico scored another goal.

This goal was scored by Jiménez.

He's a very famous player who has played for many years.

Now it was two to zero.

The Mexican team's win was even more secure.

South Africa, right to the end, didn't score a single goal.

So the final score was two to zero, and Mexico won.

But there was one more special thing about this match.

Yesterday's match had a total of three players sent off.

Being sent off means: he committed a foul and can't play anymore.

Why did this happen?

Because some players made very bad moves.

The first one sent off was a South Africa player.

He fouled just as Mexico was about to score.

Later, South Africa had another player sent off.

This one even struck an opponent — the move was too violent.

So South Africa had two players sent off in total.

Near the end of the match, Mexico also had a player sent off.

He was Mexico's captain.

So this match had three players sent off in total.

Three players sent off in one match — that's rare.

With fewer players, South Africa found it even harder to play.

They were already losing, and now down a man, it got harder.

But by then, Mexico had already won.

So this didn't change the result.

Many people said this was a very special match.

Some said it was a big win; others said it was too chaotic.

Actually, both are right.

Mexico won handsomely, but the match's temper ran high too.

That's exactly why everyone remembers it so clearly.

After the match ended, the Mexican fans were all very happy.

They sang together in the stadium, and no one wanted to leave.

For Mexico, winning in their own country means a lot.

They waited a very, very long time for this day.

Now the Mexican team is first in their group.

They have three points.

In the World Cup, winning one match earns three points.

South Africa lost this one, so for now they have zero.

But there are more matches ahead, and South Africa still has a chance.

The Mexican team's next match is against South Korea.

South Korea also won yesterday, so that game will be exciting too.

Yesterday's start was really good for Mexico.

Two goals, plus three red cards.

This day, the fans will surely remember for a long time.

Alright, that was the Mexican team's first match.

Thanks for listening, see you next time.
