一旦...，就...
Reach for this when one event will trigger another the instant it happens — 'the moment X occurs, Y follows.' It's the chain-reaction conditional: stronger and more decisive than 如果...就..., because 一旦 frames the trigger as something that, once it starts, can't be undone. Common in news, warnings, and business analysis where a single tipping point flips everything downstream.

How to Think About It
一旦 literally means 'one day' but functions as 'the instant this happens.' Where 如果 is neutral ('if it rains'), 一旦 carries the weight of a threshold being crossed — once you step over it, the consequence is already running. The 就 in the second half locks the result in as automatic, not optional. Use 一旦 when the trigger is a one-way door.

Common Mistake
Learners use 一旦 for ordinary 'if' situations where 如果 is the right word. 一旦 implies a serious or irreversible trigger, so applying it to trivial conditions sounds melodramatic to natives.

Plain 'if/then.' Use 如果 for everyday hypotheticals; switch to 一旦 only when the trigger is a tipping point you can't walk back from.
只要...就...
只要 = 'as long as / all it takes is X' — emphasizes the minimum condition. 一旦 emphasizes the moment of activation, not the sufficiency.
一...就...
一...就 connects two actions ('as soon as I see him, I'll tell him'). 一旦...就 connects a triggering condition to a downstream chain reaction, often with stakes.
