不管...都...
Reach for this when you want to say 'no matter what/who/when/how, the result is the same.' 不管下不下雨, 我都去. (No matter whether it rains or not, I'm going.) The first half lists open options or extremes; 都 in the second half guarantees they all lead to the same outcome. It's the pattern of stubborn promises and universal rules.
Structure
不管 [VARIATION], [SUBJECT] 都 [RESULT]
bùguǎn... dōu...
How to Think About It
The 不管 clause must contain ALTERNATIVES — a question word (谁, 什么, 怎么, 多少), a yes/no choice (来不来), or an A还是B option. A bare statement won't do. The whole pattern is saying 'sweep across all these possibilities; my answer doesn't change.' If there's only one possible value being discussed, 不管 is the wrong tool — use 虽然 or 即使 instead.
Examples
不管多累, 我都要把工作做完。
Bùguǎn duō lèi, wǒ dōu yào bǎ gōngzuò zuòwán.
No matter how tired I am, I have to finish the work.
不管谁来, 我都不开门。
Bùguǎn shéi lái, wǒ dōu bù kāimén.
No matter who comes, I won't open the door.
不管你同意不同意, 我都要去。
Bùguǎn nǐ tóngyì bù tóngyì, wǒ dōu yào qù.
Whether you agree or not, I'm going.
Common Mistake
Learners drop 都 because English 'no matter what' doesn't need a second marker. In Chinese the 都 is what closes the loop — without it, the sentence feels unfinished. Always pair them.
不管多忙, 我去。
不管多忙, 我都去。
Don't Confuse With
无论...都...
Same meaning, more formal/written. 无论 is what you'll see in essays and announcements; 不管 is the everyday spoken version. Fully interchangeable in meaning.
即使...也...
即使 concedes ONE hypothetical extreme ('even if X were true'). 不管 covers a RANGE of possibilities ('no matter which of X, Y, Z'). If you want to spotlight a single worst case, use 即使; for a sweep across options, use 不管.
不论...都...
Identical to 无论, slightly formal. Use 不管 in speech, 无论/不论 in writing. No semantic difference.
