Today we're talking about a very tense World Cup knockout game: Switzerland and Colombia drew zero to zero, and in the end Switzerland won the penalty shootout.
In this game, both teams defended superbly.
First, a word on Switzerland.
Switzerland are a very disciplined team; the whole side combines well, and their defense is especially solid.
Now a word on Colombia.
Colombia come from South America, with technically gifted players and real quality.
Alright, let's look at the game.
This was an evenly matched game, with both teams strong.
In the first half, both sides were careful, and neither scored.
In the second half, both teams wanted to score, but the opposition defended too well.
All the way to the end of ninety minutes, the score was still zero to zero.
Next, the two teams played extra time.
But in extra time, still no one could score.
After a hundred and twenty minutes, the score was still zero to zero.
So what do they do?
It could only be settled by a penalty shootout.
A penalty shootout is where the two teams take penalties one by one, and whoever scores more wins.
At this point, the atmosphere was extremely tense.
Most of the players on both teams put their penalties away.
Switzerland's goalkeeper Kobel was crucial, saving one of Colombia's penalties.
In the end, Switzerland's Vargas scored the decisive spot-kick.
Switzerland won the shootout and reached the quarter-finals!
Here's something very special.
Actually, Switzerland hadn't reached a World Cup quarter-final in a very, very long time.
The last time goes back more than seventy years.
So this win means a great deal to Switzerland.
For Colombia, losing is truly such a shame.
They played every bit as well, they were just a little unlucky in the shootout.
A penalty shootout is sometimes this cruel.
That's Switzerland knocking out Colombia on penalties, a win belonging to discipline and perseverance.
See you next match.
