中间 (zhōngjiān) is a position noun meaning 'the middle,' 'in between,' or 'among.'
Use it for physical center (the middle of a room, between two buildings) and for figurative middle ground (between two events, among a group). The standard pattern is A 和 B 中间 — '(in) between A and B' — or 在…中间 ('in the middle of …'). Two differences from English. First, 中间 is a noun, not a preposition: you put it after the noun phrase it modifies, not before.
'Between the table and the chair' is 桌子和椅子中间, not 中间桌子和椅子. Second, for the abstract 'middle of a process' (middle of the meeting, middle of the night), Chinese often prefers 中 alone (会议中, 半夜) rather than 中间. 中间 is most natural for spatial 'middle.'

中央 means 'central' and is more formal — used for the geographic/political center (central government, city center). 中间 is the everyday word for spatial middle.
之间 also means 'between/among' but is more written and formal. 我们之间 ('between us') sounds slightly literary; 我们中间 is more spoken. After numbers and time spans, 之间 is preferred: 五到十年之间.

中文 means 'Chinese (the language).' 中间 means 'middle.' They share the character 中 but the second character is completely different (文 'writing' vs 间 'space').
中 alone means 'middle/center' or 'China,' and is used as a suffix (会议中 'in the middle of a meeting'). 中间 is the standalone noun for a spatial middle position.
之间 is more formal/written for 'between/among' and pairs more readily with abstract nouns and time ranges. 中间 is more concrete and spoken.
