大家

大家 (dàjiā) is the standard Chinese pronoun for 'everyone' or 'everybody' when addressing or referring to a group the speaker is part of or speaking to. Literally 'big family,' it functions like English 'you all / everyone' but with no formality baggage — it's equally natural in a classroom, a team meeting, or a wedding toast. Two things differ from English: first, 大家 is the normal way to open a group greeting (大家好, 'hello everyone'), where English speakers might just say 'hi guys'; second, 大家 often pairs with 都 (dōu, 'all') for emphasis, as in 大家都知道 ('everyone knows'). Unlike 所有人 (suǒyǒu rén, 'all people'), 大家 carries a warmer, more inclusive feel — the speaker is one of the group.
