舒适
comfortable; cozy
shūshì
What does 舒适 mean?
舒适 (shūshì) means 'comfortable' or 'cozy' — pleasant to the senses, easy on the body, restful. It describes places, furniture, clothes, environments, and journeys: 舒适的沙发 'comfortable sofa,' 舒适的酒店 'cozy hotel,' 舒适的天气 'pleasant weather.' Two contrasts will help English speakers. First, Chinese has two near-synonyms with slightly different feel: 舒服 (shūfu) is the warm everyday spoken word for personal comfort ('the bed feels comfortable, I feel good'), while 舒适 is the more written/formal cousin that often describes a place or experience objectively ('the cabin is comfortable').
When you say '今天我不舒服' you mean 'I don't feel well' — never 不舒适 in that personal-health sense. Second, 舒适 cannot describe a person's emotional ease the way English 'comfortable' can ('I'm comfortable with this decision'); for that use 放心 'at ease' or 自在 'relaxed.' 舒适 is for physical/environmental comfort.
Note: 舒适
Character breakdown
stretch out; relax; comfortable
suit; fit; appropriate
Memory hook: 舒 'relaxed' + 适 'fitting' = relaxed and well-fitting — that's comfort.

Common phrases with 舒适
Synonyms
舒服 is the colloquial everyday word for comfort, used for both personal feeling ('I feel good') and objects ('the bed is comfy'). 舒适 is more written and often describes places/products objectively. '我不舒服' (I don't feel well) is fixed — never use 舒适 there.
舒坦 is colloquial and slightly northern, often describing emotional or physical ease after relief ('心里很舒坦' my heart feels at ease). 舒适 stays neutral and written; it doesn't carry the same after-relief warmth.
Don't confuse 舒适 with
舒服 is the spoken default for both 'feeling good' and 'comfortable.' 舒适 is the written/product-description register. Mix them up and the sentence sounds either too stiff (using 舒适 in personal feelings) or too casual (using 舒服 in a product brochure).
合适 = 'suitable / fitting / appropriate' (the right choice/size/match). 舒适 = 'comfortable.' '这件衣服很合适' (this clothing fits well/suits me) vs '这件衣服很舒适' (this clothing is comfortable to wear).
