What does 淡人 mean?
淡人 (dàn rén) means a chill, unbothered person in gen-z Chinese slang. The low-key half of the pair: light on emotion, ambition and socialising, hard to rattle. Worth knowing it is not the same as 社恐 — a 淡人 is not anxious, just genuinely unbothered either way. Literally, it means "diluted person".

Where 淡人 comes from
The other half of the 浓人 / 淡人 split that took off in early 2024. Its unofficial mascot is the capybara, which is about right. Being 淡 reads as enviable in an exhausting environment, so it lands as a compliment rather than an accusation of coldness.
