always
HSK level
总是 (zǒngshì) is an adverb meaning 'always' — describing something that happens habitually or repeatedly.
Place it directly before the verb: 他总是迟到 ('He's always late'), 我总是喝咖啡 ('I always drink coffee'). Two things differ from English 'always.' First, 总是 often carries a tinge of complaint, observation of a repeated pattern, or mild exasperation — saying 他总是忘 ('he's always forgetting') implies you've noticed and aren't pleased.
For neutral repetition, 每次都 (měi cì dōu) is more neutral. Second, the shorter form 总 (zǒng) is used in some contexts and means roughly the same thing (你总迟到 'you're always late'), though 总是 is more complete. For 'always' in the sense of 'forever / for all time,' use 永远 (yǒngyuǎn) instead — 我永远爱你 ('I'll love you forever'), not 我总是爱你.
Note: Often carries a mild tone of complaint or noticing a repeated pattern: 他总是迟到 ('He's always late') implies the speaker is frustrated. For neutral 'every time,' 每次 (měi cì) is more matter-of-fact.

经常 means 'often / frequently' — high frequency but not 100%. 总是 means 'always' — close to every time. 'I often eat noodles' = 我经常吃面; 'I always eat noodles' = 我总是吃面.
老是 is colloquial 'always' with a stronger complaint flavor — 'always (annoyingly).' 你老是迟到 sounds slightly more irritated than 你总是迟到. 总是 is more neutral; 老是 is more spoken and complaining.
永远 means 'forever / always' in the sense of eternal time. Use it for love, promises, or unchanging states. 总是 is for habitual repetition. 'I'll always love you' (forever) = 我永远爱你; 'He's always late' (habit) = 他总是迟到.
