A + 让 + B + Adjective/Verb
Use this when you want to say one thing causes another thing or person to feel or do something — 'A makes B feel/do C.' AI 让 我们 变得没意思 'AI makes us become boring.' This is the most common causative shape in Chinese conversation: subject A, then 让, then who or what is affected, then the resulting verb or adjective. Works for emotions ('this song makes me happy'), behavior ('the rain made us stay home'), and changes of state ('AI makes us the same').
Structure
[A] 让 [B] [VERB / ADJ]
A ràng B + [VERB/ADJ]
How to Think About It
Think of 让 as a tiny conveyor belt: A pushes the effect, 让 transfers it, B catches it and shows the result. The order is rigid — whatever causes the effect always goes first, before 让. Translating 'X makes me happy,' resist starting with 我; start with X. The most common error is flipping A and B because English allows either order ('I'm happy because of X' / 'X makes me happy'); Chinese only allows the second.
Examples
这首歌让我想起了小时候。
Zhè shǒu gē ràng wǒ xiǎng qǐ le xiǎoshíhou.
This song makes me think of childhood.

Zhè cì lǚxíng ràng wǒmen gèng liǎojiě duìfāng.

Common Mistake
Learners flip the subject because English experiencers often come first ('I feel sad when I hear this'). In the 让 pattern, the cause must come first; the experiencer comes after 让.
我让这个消息很难过。
这个消息让我很难过。
Don't Confuse With
使 A + Verb/Adj
Formal causative for the same job. 让 fits speech and casual writing; 使 belongs in essays.
把 B + Verb
把 acts directly on B ('I closed the door'). 让 has B do or feel something itself ('I made him close the door').
因为 A, B + Verb/Adj
Spells out cause-and-effect in two clauses. A 让 B 高兴 is the tight, one-clause version of the same idea.
