疑问词+问号+解释结构
Reach for this rhetorical move when you want to pose a question and immediately answer it — 'Why? Because...' 'How? Like this...' The speaker raises a question they know the audience is thinking, then explains. Heavy in editorials, speeches, op-eds, classroom lectures, and persuasive writing. The question-mark beat creates a pause that draws the listener in before the explanation lands. Slightly formal register; avoid stacking too many in a row — once or twice per paragraph is enough for emphasis without sounding theatrical.
Structure
Question Word + ?+ Explanation (often beginning with 因为, 这是因为, 答案是, etc.).
wèi shénme? yīnwèi... / zěnme bàn? ...
How to Think About It
Think of it as the writer playing both interviewer and interviewee. The question word — 为什么, 怎么办, 凭什么, 谁 — is the prosecutor's prompt; the explanation is the witness's answer. This pattern is structural, not lexical: you're using punctuation and pacing to manufacture engagement. English uses the same device ('Why? Because we believed.'). In Chinese it lands cleanly because the question word does all the lifting.

Common Mistake
Learners write the question as a real question and wait, forgetting the explanation must follow immediately. The rhetorical effect dies if the answer is too far away or absent — readers think you're actually asking them.
为什么? ...(next paragraph)...因为我们相信未来。
为什么?因为我们相信未来。
Don't Confuse With
难道...吗?
Rhetorical question expecting NO answer ('isn't it obvious...?'). Question+explanation gives the answer; 难道 leaves it to the reader.
不是...吗?
Soft rhetorical — 'isn't it the case that...?' Affirms by questioning. Different rhetorical job: nudging agreement, not staging a Q&A.
之所以...是因为...
Same explanatory move, different shape: 'The reason for X is because Y.' Formal and front-loads the conclusion. The question-mark version is punchier.
