Subject + 吧
Reach for 吧 at the end of a sentence when you want to make a suggestion, propose an idea, or soften a command — 'let's,' 'why don't we,' 'go ahead.' 吧 turns a flat statement into an invitation: 我们走 ('we leave') becomes 我们走吧 ('let's go'). Used constantly in everyday Chinese to suggest action, give permission, or make polite imperatives. The single most common particle for collaborative suggestions.

How to Think About It
吧 is the politeness softener at the end of imperatives and suggestions. It turns 'do X' into 'let's do X' or 'maybe do X.' Without 吧, 我们去 sounds flat or instructive; with 吧, it sounds collaborative. Tone matters: 吧 also appears in guesses (是你的吧? = 'it's yours, right?'), but here we focus on its suggestion use after a subject like 我们 or 你.
Examples
我们去看电影吧。
Wǒmen qù kàn diànyǐng ba.
Let's go see a movie.
你休息一下吧。
Nǐ xiūxi yīxià ba.
Why don't you take a break.
我们一起吃饭吧。
Wǒmen yīqǐ chī fàn ba.
Let's eat together.
Common Mistake
Learners use 吧 to make questions, confusing it with 吗. 吗 asks a yes/no question; 吧 either makes a suggestion or seeks soft confirmation ('right?'). Mixing them up changes the meaning.
我们去看电影吗? (when you mean 'let's go see a movie')
我们去看电影吧。
Don't Confuse With
...吗?
吗 is a pure yes/no question marker. 吧 makes a suggestion or seeks confirmation. 你去吗? = 'Are you going?'; 你去吧 = 'You go ahead.'
...呢?
呢 follows up on a topic ('what about you?') or marks ongoing action. 吧 proposes action or softens an order.
...啊
啊 adds emotional emphasis or surprise. 吧 specifically softens an imperative or proposes — different functions, can both end a sentence.
