It's the heightened essay-and-editorial cousin of 不仅...还..., and you'll meet it constantly in opinion columns, product launches, and TED-style speech. The first half acknowledges the obvious reading; the second half pivots to the meaning the writer actually wants you to walk away with. Use it when the second clause is conceptually bigger than the first, not just additional.

How to Think About It
Two halves, but they are not equal — the 更是 side carries the real claim. Think of it as 'sure, X is true, but the bigger truth is Y.' The doubled 仅 in 不仅仅 raises the rhetorical stakes versus plain 不仅, so reserve this pattern for moments where the deeper meaning genuinely deserves the spotlight. If the two clauses are simply parallel facts, use 不仅...还... instead.

Common Mistake
Learners often follow 更是 with a verb phrase, copying English 'but also does Y.' In this pattern 更是 takes a noun or noun-like phrase (an identity, a role, an essence), because 是 needs a complement, not an action.
