从……到……再到……
Reach for 从…到…再到… when you want to walk a listener through a progression with at least three stops — a journey, a timeline, a list of stages, or a sweeping range. It is the big-picture version of 从...到..., letting you stack a third anchor that emphasizes the breadth or duration of what you're describing. The structure dramatizes 'all the way through' — not just two points, but a chain.
Structure
cóng... dào... zài dào...
How to Think About It
再到 is the rhetorical kicker — it pushes the sequence past 'A to B' into 'A to B to even C,' adding a third stop the listener wasn't expecting. The three slots should be parallel in type: three places, three time points, three stages of a process. Mixing types ('from Monday to Beijing to expensive') breaks the rhythm. Native speakers can chain a fourth '再到' if the sequence really needs it, but three is the natural shape.
Examples
Cóng zǎoshang dào zhōngwǔ, zài dào wǎnshang, tā yīzhí zài gōngzuò.
From morning to noon and then to night, he kept working.
Cóng shèjì dào shēngchǎn, zài dào xiāoshòu, dōu shì wǒmen gōngsī zuò de.
From design to production and then to sales — our company does all of it.
Cóng Běijīng dào Shànghǎi, zài dào Guǎngzhōu, tā yì zhōu pǎo le sān gè chéngshì.
From Beijing to Shanghai and then on to Guangzhou — he hit three cities in one week.
Common Mistake
Learners drop 再 in the third clause, copying English 'from A to B to C.' Chinese needs 再 (or 又) before the final 到 to signal that a third anchor is being added — without it the sentence sounds like the speaker is repeating themselves.
Don't Confuse With
从...到...
Use the two-anchor version for simple ranges or routes. Add 再到 only when you genuinely have a third stop that strengthens the picture.
More step-by-step narrative for a process. Use 从...到...再到... when the emphasis is on breadth or scope across stages; use 从...开始 sequences when each step is a separate action you're describing in detail.
还是...
Means 'whether X or Y' — emphasizes range across categories without progression.
