堪比...
Reach for 堪比 when you want to elevate something by comparing it to a famously high standard — 'rivals / on par with / comparable to.' It's literary and slightly dramatic, common in headlines, reviews, and commentary: a budget gadget 堪比 high-end models, an amateur singer 堪比 a pro. The thing on the right side of 堪比 is the gold standard; the subject is being told it's punching at that level.
Structure
[SUBJECT] 堪比 [BENCHMARK]
kān bǐ...
How to Think About It
堪 means 'worthy of / can bear,' so 堪比 literally means 'worthy of being compared to.' That's why the right-hand side is always something prestigious or impressive — you don't say something is 堪比 a slow morning. The pattern flatters the subject and uses the benchmark as the yardstick. Swap 堪比 for plain 比, and you lose the implication that the benchmark is the gold standard.
Examples
他的厨艺堪比专业厨师。
Tā de chúyì kān bǐ zhuānyè chúshī.
His cooking rivals that of a professional chef.
这家小店的咖啡堪比五星级酒店。
Zhè jiā xiǎo diàn de kāfēi kān bǐ wǔ xīng jí jiǔdiàn.
This small shop's coffee is on par with a five-star hotel's.
演唱会的现场效果堪比电影。
Yǎnchànghuì de xiànchǎng xiàoguǒ kān bǐ diànyǐng.
The live effects of the concert rivaled those of a movie.
Common Mistake
Learners use 堪比 with a neutral or unimpressive benchmark, which sounds odd. The right side has to carry prestige — otherwise the elevation falls flat and the sentence reads like a normal comparison.

Don't Confuse With
[A] 比 [B] 更 [ADJ]
比...更... is everyday comparison. 堪比 specifically elevates the subject to a prestigious benchmark without saying which is better.
[A] 跟 [B] 一样 [ADJ]
跟...一样... is neutral equivalence. 堪比 carries admiration and is written / formal.
[A] 不亚于 [B]
不亚于 means 'not inferior to' — also flattering. 堪比 says 'matches it'; 不亚于 says 'isn't lesser.' Both pair with prestigious benchmarks, but 不亚于 is more cautious in tone.
