Reach for this when you want to argue that something matters for MORE than one reason — and the obvious reason is just the start. Common in essays, op-eds, and analytical talks. The first half names the result you're explaining; the second half says 'don't think one cause covers it.' Use it whenever you're about to push past a surface explanation to a deeper one.

How to Think About It
之所以 flips the standard 因为...所以... — it leads with the result and treats the reason as the focus of analysis. Adding 不仅仅 ('not just') signals 'I'm about to name one cause, but the picture is bigger.' Native readers expect more reasons to follow — usually a second clause starting with 还因为, 更因为, or just '更重要的是'. Without the follow-up, the sentence sounds like a setup with no payoff.

Common Mistake
Learners drop the second 仅, writing 不是因为 instead of 不仅仅是因为. But 不是 denies the cause entirely, while 不仅仅 means 'not only.' Confusing them flips the argument: you'd be saying the surface reason isn't a reason at all, instead of saying it's only part of the story.

'Not only X, but also Y.' Adds an extra item but doesn't carry the analytical 'reason' meaning. Use 不仅 to expand a list; use 不仅仅是因为 specifically for layered explanations.
不是因为...而是因为...
Denies one cause and substitutes another — 'not because of X, but because of Y.' Use it to correct a wrong assumption; use 不仅仅是因为 when the first cause is correct but incomplete.
