Topic + 来 + Verb
Reach for [Subject] + 来 + Verb when you want to volunteer to do something or invite the group to do something together — 'let me / let's do X.' It's soft, polite, and signals initiative without sounding bossy. Teachers use it to introduce explanations (我来给你解释), hosts use it to suggest activities (我们来想一想), and speakers use it to take turns in discussion. The 来 here doesn't mean 'come' — it's a stance marker.
Structure
[SUBJECT] 来 [VERB PHRASE]
[SUBJECT] lái [VERB PHRASE]
How to Think About It
来 here is body language put into grammar — it's the verbal equivalent of stepping forward and rolling up your sleeves. The 来 doesn't move anyone in space; it volunteers the subject to take on the action. Drop 来 and the sentence still describes the action, but the friendly 'let me handle this' or 'let's tackle this together' feeling disappears.
Examples
我来给你介绍一下。
Wǒ lái gěi nǐ jièshào yíxià.
Let me introduce it to you.
我们来想一想这个问题。
Wǒmen lái xiǎng yi xiǎng zhège wèntí.
Let's think about this problem.
你别动,我来开车。
Nǐ bié dòng, wǒ lái kāichē.
Don't move — I'll drive.
Common Mistake
Learners read 来 as 'come' and translate too literally, producing sentences where 来 looks redundant. In this pattern, 来 isn't directional — it's a register marker that softens the announcement.

Don't Confuse With
来 [PLACE]
Directional 来 means 'come to a place.' This 来 sits between subject and verb to volunteer; it's not about coming anywhere.
让我 [VERB]
让我 also means 'let me,' but it explicitly asks permission. 我来 announces — it doesn't wait for a yes.
我们一起 [VERB]
一起 simply means 'together.' 我们来 adds the volunteering / let's-do-this energy on top of togetherness.
