不仅仅是...，...也...
Use this when one label undersells the thing. The first clause concedes 'yes, it's that', and the second clause adds the bigger, more important angle. 不仅仅是 is the slightly stronger cousin of 不仅是 — the extra 仅 makes the 'just' more emphatic, like English 'it's not merely…'. Common in commentary and analytical writing where you're correcting a too-narrow framing.

How to Think About It
Picture someone pointing at a thing and saying 'oh, it's just X.' 不仅仅是 is your response: 'don't stop there.' The first clause grants their reading; the 也 clause widens the lens to the part they missed. The two halves should describe the same subject — if you switch subjects between halves, the pattern stops working.

Common Mistake
Learners often forget to repeat the subject (or its substitute 它/这) in the second clause, leaving 也 dangling. In Chinese, 也 needs a clear subject on its left, even if it's the same one — so you usually echo with 它 or 这.

Don't Confuse With
不但……而且……
而且 stacks two facts on equal footing. 不仅仅是……也…… specifically corrects a too-narrow label — the second half is supposed to feel bigger than the first.
不仅仅是……更在于……
Same shape, stronger move. 更在于 points to the 'real essence' rather than just another aspect; use it when the second half is the deeper truth, not just additional info.
不只是……还是……
More conversational version of the same idea; 还是 sometimes carries an 'and on top of that' flavor closer to 'is also'.
