不仅仅是……
Reach for 不仅仅是…… when you want to push back against a too-small reading of something — 'it's not merely…,' 'it's not just…' You're acknowledging the obvious label but signaling that the real story is bigger. Often the bigger reading follows immediately in the next clause with 还, 也, or 更. Sometimes the writer leaves the bigger reading implied, letting 不仅仅是 do the rhetorical work of saying 'and there's more to it than that.'

How to Think About It
Compare 不是 (just negates), 不只是 (slightly softer 'not only is it'), and 不仅仅是 (doubled 仅 for extra insistence). Treat 不仅仅是 as one unit that introduces an underestimated description, then expect either an explicit upgrade (with 更, 还, 也) or an implied 'and so much more.'

Common Mistake
Learners drop the doubled 仅 and write 不仅是, which is grammatical but loses the emphasis. Or they use 不只 in mid-sentence after a subject when the construction needs to sit at the start of the predicate.
