Reach for this in writing or news commentary when you want to credit a specific cause for a positive outcome — 'thanks to,' 'owing to,' 'benefitting from.' It introduces the source of an advantage, not just any cause. The result is almost always something good: growth, success, recovery, improvement. Speech rarely uses it; in conversation people say 多亏了 instead. Common in business articles, government reports, and academic writing.

How to Think About It
得益 literally means 'to gain benefit'; 于 marks the source of that benefit. So 得益于X reads as 'the benefit comes from X.' This is why the slot after 于 must be the helpful condition — the engine of the good result — and the slot before it must be something positive that needs explaining.

Common Mistake
Learners use it for any cause-and-effect link, including negative outcomes. 得益于 only fits when the result is favorable. For neutral or negative causes, use 由于 or 因为.

由于 is neutral and works for good, bad, or neutral causes. 得益于 is reserved for positive results.
多亏了...
多亏了 is the everyday, conversational 'thanks to.' 得益于 is its formal, written sibling — use it in articles, not at dinner.

因为...所以... is the standard cause-effect frame in speech. 得益于 packages the cause inside a phrase rather than a full clause, and it adds a tone of credit.
